In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain.
I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend.
I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
I'm attending a funeral tomorrow for a friend, who at the age of 50, passed away far too early. Not certain what to expect, as she wasn't close with her family (except her sons) but had many, many friends.
ReplyDeleteFor the family, and for you, I'm happy that it turned out to be a beautiful day and ceremony.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it wasn't as bad as you thought!
ReplyDeleteGlad that it turned out well. Famlies can be an odd bunch for sure. Glad no tension for the celebration of life.
ReplyDeleteMay he rest in peace. Sounds like a beautiful service.
ReplyDeleteSound like it was a nice tribute for your friend's family.
ReplyDeleteWe are flying from Seattle to Tucson next weekend for the celebration of life for a dear friend. Three days of 105-degree temps will be a challenge for me, just two months past knee replacement surgery. But it's an important event.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the priest could find words to bring everyone together. I guess at our age, we start to lose too many wonderful people. In the last month, we lost several classmates. And at the end of this month, there will be a funeral for the husband of my cousin.
ReplyDeleteWhat does "Christ Consciousness" mean?
