Moon Tune

We sat outside last Friday night.  Even though our carport and lanai face directly east, we had a pleasant sunset experience. There was plenty of lightning in those clouds as well. And just off the south, the sky was still mostly blue. Before too long it was dark and the moon was rising, occasionally peeking through the clouds.  Not yet a full moon, but I can hardly notice the difference. There is something about the moon that just goes with music:  Blue Moon, Fly Me to the Moon,   Moon River , and Moonlight in Vermont. Can you name the artists for these? Plus and Minus

All I can say to this is: You go, girl!   What a positive statement about aging. I don't know what to say about this either, except that it is pretty negative of statement about something.  I read in the paper about a high school boy who was seriously injured at his tech. center, in the electrical lab.  He attached an electrical cable of some sort to one of his nipples.  A second student attached another cable to the first's other nipple.  A third of these rocket science scholars plugged it into an electrical socket.  The resulting shock was enough to stop the boy's heart.  The boy and his parents are now suing the the teacher, the school, and the school district because the teacher did not adequately warn the boys about the dangers of electricity.  Good grief.  Kids can do some stupid things and sometimes they get hurt.  Still, I'm inclined to believe that if my kid did something like this, I'd want to keep it quiet rather than m...

More Dancing

My maternal grandfather was not successful in turning me into a famous ballerina, but my paternal grandfather taught me to polka. My Grandpa Sam was one of the kindest and sweetest individuals to ever walk the face of the earth. He was playful and fun loving in a quiet kind of way. It is not at all hard to picture him dancing and having just the best time swinging the dance floor on a Saturday night. It is quite a bit more difficult to picture my grandma dancing along with him, but I know there must have been a side to her that I never got to see.I wonder if there are still radio stations that have a polka hour? I know there are tapes and reruns of the Lawrence Welk Show. It was on the rotation at my mother's nursing home--wonderful therapy for Alzheimer's patients. It's amazing how people who can't remember the names of their children can belt out the lyrics of the old songs. Different part of the brain or different pathways to retrieval...I don't know. I do know, ...

Night Out

We went to hear The Nighthawks play at Aces lounge on Saturday night. It was a great show--or at least a great first set, which put us seriously up past our bedtime. They give new meaning to 60's rock (since three of the four members are now 60). Great energy. Our generation continues to use up all the fun. Check them out: http://www.thenighthawks.com/ .
