Pleasant Weekend

Our company arrived Friday evening and we had a leisurely dinner and wine and conversation. They brought Lindt Dark Chocolate with a touch of Sea Salt. One word: HEAVEN! Saturday, "the boys" left for a BMW motorcycle swap meet. Jeannie and I went to poke around an architectural salvage store and the antique mall situated above it. Jeannie purchased a little soap dish and a large green glass blown vase to put by their newly refinished fireplace. We went to the Four Corners of the Earth Cafe where we had my favorite sandwich and iced tea. Then we went for a nice long walk along the Burlington waterfront. When we all got back, we played bocce in the backyard--great fun, but just for the record, the girls had a quite spectacular win. A rout, really. We got up late this morning. A steady rain and cool air blowing in the windows made sleeping in just about the perfect activity for starting a Sunday. I made a big breakfast which included bacon for a treat. We get McKensie bacon here...

Holding On

The weather promises to warm up for the coming week so I am holding on through another cold and drizzly Saturday. I did get out yesterday to pick bunches of lilacs and lily-of-the-valley. The house smells wonderfully like spring. I don't care for sprays or plug-ins that scent the air, but I do love the lilacs while they are in bloom. Garden work is just not something you can parcel out. Probably in a couple of weeks I'll be in over my head with too much to do. Being and equal opportunity complainer, I'll moan about that, too. I do have plenty of chives and they have been appearing in many recent meals...on one of our plates. Chives are another item on Mike's list of "nuisance vegetables." The chives are about to bloom and then I will make some chive vinegar by soaking the flowers in white vi...

Beer Making My Mind Wander

Do you ever hit the "Next Blog" tab? It fascinates me. I don't know, but I'm thinking it must pick up on tags from your blog and match with other sites--in which case I guess I really need to get better at tagging my posts. I mean, sometimes , I discover a new and interesting blog, but most times I am left wondering, "Where did this come from?" Today "Next Blog," sent me to My Mother's Blog and head in the clouds, feet on the gas --both of which I found interesting. Then it went into a whole series of blogs about beer and home brewing. Why? (Oh, yeah...I did write about going out to hear a bar band last week-end.) I seldom drink beer and I certainly have no desire to take up brewing as a new hobby. My husband likes the dark kinds of beer that you have to chew before swallowing. Give me a Corona, preferably one that comes in those cute little 7 ounce bottles cause otherwise I won't finish it, if it is a really, really hot and humid day or ...
