Hockey

Don is a Bruins hockey fan. He had season tickets to the University of Vermont hockey games before COVID, but he'd never had the opportunity to see a professional team play in person. When he saw that the Boston Bruins were playing the Tampa Bay Lightning during his Florida stay -- well, tickets were purchased.

We drove to Tampa last Friday morning and spent some time in the Tampa Harley shop -- the tee shirt thing -- and the Orange County Choppers Museum next door, which is definitely not my kind of place, so we left. Now, my late husband had a shop that specialized in antique American motorcycle restoration, and I have spent plenty of time at swap meets and around biker enthusiasts. But really, this place was like breathing toxic energy.

A bit of city site seeing along the harbor and riverwalk, then we checked into our hotel room before going to the arena. We got Cuban sandwiches for our supper and people watched befor
e the doors opened. We found our seats. There are no bad seats at Amalie Arena, and we were getting into the festive mood. There were many Boston fans in the crowd -- easily identified since they were wearing team colors. Both sides were quite enthusiastic.

The regular game ended in a 1 to 1 tie. It seems incredibly difficult to get that little puck into the net. There would be a sudden death tie breaker. Don asked me who would win. I said that since he was watching and whenever he watches the team he is cheering on, they lose so Tampa would certainly score.

But I was wrong. The Bruins scored and the game was over.  A bucket list item scored!

  1. Sounds like you had a good time at the game. My daughter is big hockey fan and has been to a number games (pre child). I like watching the playoffs but otherwise I rarely watch and I'm not sure I'd want to go see a game in person.

But it is nice to tick off an item on the bucket list.

  2. Well, what a great game! Glad you both enjoyed time together. David doesn't watch hockey, so that sport is never on our radar.

  3. Yay for the Bruins victory! We have a new pro hockey team here in Seattle this year but they are are struggling. I have not yet become a fan. Now the Sounders pro soccer, is another story. Our team plays this evening in NYC for the chance to play a top Mexico team for a regional championship. We'll be in our recliners watching in a few hours.

  4. I love hockey games in person. Glad his team won to make this an even better memory!

  5. I don't know much about hockey so don't follow but I would love to see a live game. While I enjoy basketball on tv, I love it in person. I would like to see a game and then be able to see that I think. I can't even imagine how those dudes skate like that. I would definitely break an ankle.

  6. Glad you were able to tick off a bucket list item. Hockey hasn't been a sport to which I've had much exposure or given much attention but seems to have a lot of enthusiastic fans.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
