From a communication sent by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders:
In my view, the mainstream media often pays too much attention to the rich, the famous, and the powerful. Meanwhile, in every part of our state and country there are extraordinary people who, day after day, in quiet ways, lead by example and have an enormous impact upon our communities and our daily lives.
They may be teachers or librarians, doctors or nurses, farmers or small businesspersons, bus drivers or janitors, firefighters, police officers or any other type of workers. Day after day, these are the people who have a positive impact upon our communities and our daily lives.
He went on to introduce Vermonter Ann Chandler on the occasion of her 100th birthday.
Mrs. Chandler was a pilot. Her military pilot husband taught her to fly and bought her her own plane. An aerobatic plane!
She enjoys gardening, playing golf, and hunting. On her birthday, she was anticipating a good maple syrup season.
I agree with Bernie. A botoxed, lipo-suctioned, plastic celebrity does nothing for me. A story about a real person like Mrs. Chandler is much more interesting. A life well-lived!
ReplyDeleteGotta love Bernie and people like Ann.
ReplyDeleteGood for her! I'm hoping for a good maple syrup season too!
ReplyDeleteAn Chandler is a true star!
ReplyDeleteBernie is right. There are so many unsung heroes in our midst! I love that woman. Awesome lady!
ReplyDeleteI love Bernie and his plain speaking too. And what an amazing person Ann is! Sounds like her husband was also a very special man as well.
ReplyDeleteYou've got to love Bernie. I didn't vote for him because I didn't think he could win but I do love to hear his thoughts.
ReplyDeleteBernie always has something interesting to say! Ann Chandler is a wonderful example of a true American. I bet she has some great stories to tell!
ReplyDeleteI do agree that we need more normal people in our news.
ReplyDeleteWe are lauding more ordinary people than ever before. Social Media makes this so much easier!
