Recently I received an email thanking me for shopping at Home Depot and letting me know that I was the lucky recipient of a valuable prize for filling out their survey.
Then I got a very similar email from Lowe's.
I had bought a new garbage can at HD and a quart of paint at Lowe's but I don't usually fill out surveys. The prizes were compelling--anybody would find something they wanted on the lists. All that was required was to pay a shipping cost by entering a credit card number.
Hmm. Nothing comes for free. If it sounds too good to be true . . . These are old sayings so someone trying to part one from their money is nothing new. Still, it's sad that we have to think everything is some kind of scam.
No, I deleted the emails.
I know. There is so much to be watchful about with our social contact media - emails, phone calls, Facebook messages, Messenger, actual paper mail.

They do get clever don't they? I got one from Ebay? that said I had won the bid and the $400 playstation was going to be sent to a gentleman whose name and address in Florida was posted. If I wanted to cancel I should call the number listed. Nope.
ReplyDeleteThe scary one for me is the recorded call from somebody purporting to be from Social Security saying there's something wrong with my account and I should call back right away. I've never called back, so I don't know what the scam is exactly, but I know it's definitely a scam. There oughta be a way to shut these things down.

Yes, I've had these too... sure seems strange that I've won so many "free" things lately... no, I never click on them either.
ReplyDeleteI am tired of the unsolicited phone calls that come constantly. I know I have blocked dozens but still the phone rings!
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe the number of phone calls and emails from scammers trying to get inside my privacy. I don't answer or reply and by now word should be out among them that I won't fall for their plots. Still they keep trying.

ReplyDeleteOn Monday, someone hacked my Facebook account.Changed the email and password. I was unable to contact Facebook to get it taken care of, so I created a new account Monday afternoon. By Tuesday morning I was unable to get into either of them! I figure the Universe wants me to take a break from Facebook!
