Food for Body and Soul

I have been harvesting cherry tomatoes every day. I'm thrilled because chipmunks ate all my tomatoes right off the vine last summer.

I bought this pepper at the farm market. I was just mesmerized by its colors. I think I annoyed another customer by standing there holding it my hands and just admiring it for probably longer than an ordinary pepper might warrant.

Of course it won't last so I sautéed it with mushroom. onion and tomatoes and had it with a sprinkle of melted cheese on a pita bread for my supper. So fresh and yummy.

You know how you buy something at Costco that you really like but then it disappears? I will shed tears if they stop selling this snack:

I know nothing about a keto diet, but this stuff is delicious and satisfies the crunch craving for me.

I baked this Florida citrus pie for PI day (3/14).

It's lemon and orange curd with meringue topping. I distributed it to neighbors so as not to sit in front the the tv with the pie on my lap and a big spoon in my hand. No one else had heard about pi day -- serious lack of math nerds around here.

Avocados are cheap around here right now.  I made myself a crispy tostado topped with avocado, shrimp, tomato salsa, and sour cream. I remembered enjoying this in a restaurant some years ago. It didn't disappoint made at home, so simple.

  1. Well now I'm hungry. :-)
You can get those on amazon.com too if Costco should ever stop carrying your coconut Keto clusters. They sure look good. I've heard of PI day and I hate math more than cats...okay not true. Cats still win but I have a dear friend who is a math nerd and she is a teacher of advanced math. She always brings a pie in on PI day. She also decorates her own classroom for her birthday. So you can see why we're friends. 😄

  3. Glad you got a harvest this year. I had racoons strip my plum tomatoes one year. They ate every one of them and pooped around the plant to show how good they were.
Those Keto clusters sound delicious and healthy too. Will look for them.

  5. They say we eat with our eyes as well as our palate. All of it looked very tasty!

    Take care, stay well.

  6. I used to grow tomatoes and bell peppers in containers on the side of our house (the sunny side). Haven't tried since the pandemic, but your pictures encouraged me. And your pie looks wonderful!

  8. I am confused. Did you decide to stay in Florida permanently? I know you aren't picking cherry tomatoes in New England! I must say, that pepper looked amazing! A work of art!

  9. Dear Country Girl, I foolishly thought I would just stay in VT this year what with the virus and all. Then winter hit and it was became pretty obvious that I am not a winter person in any way.
I am glad you liked the pepper. I just could not get enough of looking at it for the longest time.

  10. Sadly, anything red gets eaten my bulbuls and mynah birds before we can enjoy them. That is the prettiest red pepper I've EVER seen. And oh my gosh! That meringue pie looks so scrumptious, I wish you were my neighbor. I've never seen that Coconut KETO cluster snack. Now I'll have my eyes open for it.

  11. Oh ho! I just bought the KETO clusters. Art is sort of laughing at me saying it's not good for me. Ah well... just this once.

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

New Furniture

We went shopping for a new couch. I liked this one, the first store we went to. Of course it would be an impulse to buy the first one so we trekked around to other stores -- something we liked more, a better deal? No surprise that we ended up going back to that first store the next day and purchasing that couch for our living room. Also a matching love seat for the den where we watch TV. Because I had replaced my old love seat with two recliners. We couldn't keep three households worth of furniture after all. Well, my recliner was not big enough to accommodate both Levi and me. Poor boy had to watch TV from his bed on the floor. There! This is much better! Spoiled much? The little tail on the floor belongs to his toy squirrel, Buddy. It's like having a toddler with the need to be picking up toys or risk tripping over them. But his very favorite play thing is that bathmat that can be found anywhere but the bathroom floor.

Walking

I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. However, we may be walking along happily enough -- me listening to the birds or trying to identify wildflowers and other plants while L...
