Bikes and Baseball

I had more grandson time this weekend.
Friday night was spent on the bike path along the Lake Champlain waterfront. There was a music festival going on in the park so it was crowded with tourists and townies. A minor miracle was finding parking when a truck pulled out of a space right next to the bike path as I turned into the lot by the skate park -- no time wasted so the fun could begin.

Saturday was a picture perfect July day. We headed out for the Burlington Farmers' Market. The market moved from downtown this year. The venue is much larger but also out in the blazing sun. Lots of people do not like the change but personally I was quite glad not to be stepping on someone's dog every time I turned around. Dane took advantage of a great variety of peppers -- sweet to hot.

We used some of the fresh vegetables to make a pizza supper.

He was wanting to see the Lake Monsters Baseball game on Saturday night. The theme was Star Wars. (Not Star Trek. Trust me, don't make that mistake.) And there were fireworks after the end of the game. The Brooklyn Cyclones bested the Monsters, 5 to 1, but it was a fun game all the same.

Yankees did not fare much better at all over the weekend.  Yankee fan Don went to Boston with his Red Sox fan son.

  1. Sounds like a fun time. I am definately a Trekkie and would never confuse the two.

  2. Olga We do not speak of the weekend games with boston in our home. OMG did you hear me yelling at my TV from Virginia?
Your time with your grandson sounds perfect. Do you know I am the only person in the world who has never seen a Star Wars Movie? I am quite proud of that badge, I must admit. I also love it when it makes peoples heads explode as though I am missing something. It amuses me.

  3. Lot of fun! Your grandson is a lucky boy. As for Star Trek/Star Wars I' haven't a clue so hopefully my grandson doesn't grow up to care :)

  4. That sounded fun for both grandson and ma.I was a Trekkie and only saw one Star Wars flick but know there is a big difference in the fan base.

  5. I should try making pizza, too. Sounds like you had a great time with Dane.

  6. Too bad the Lake Monsters lost, but it doesn't sound like it affected the fun of the game. In any confrontation between Captain Kirk and Obi Wan Kenobi my money is on Obi. He has the Force after all.

  7. How I miss the days when my now 20 yo Grandson spent so much of his free time with me. I love my Grand Girls but little boys are a different kind of special.

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

Life Goes On

There is nothing like a visit from the grand children to remind one that life goes on.  I spent Friday night at my daughter's and then brought the kids back home with me.  I did not get to see so much of them this past summer and it was a birthday gift to my daughter (who just turned 40!) to have a couple of days to herself. She probably spent them in her son's room playing Lego StarWars.  Dane tried to teach me how to play this video game--a hopeless task if ever there was one.  "Concentrate, Grandma!  You have to concentrate!"  I do have a hard time with sustained concentration lately, but in this case I had no clue what it was that needed concentration.  He finally took the controls away from me (thank-you!). It's amazing how long he can amuse himself at my house being out side on a scooter or helping me in the yard, especially if it involves a hose.  Inside, they both sit and draw or craft for hours.  Just before bed, Dane did say, "N...

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Okay, Linda Reeder .  Okay, Arkansas Patti .  Yours is NOT a club I wanted to join.  But I did anyway. Bike meets car; face meets pavement.  Olga meets EMTs, gets ride to ER, meets nurses, doctors and X-ray technicians, and friendly police officer who issues a citation for negligent bike riding.  Not pretty.  So very not pretty. Are you ready for this? Yes. I was wearing my helmet. Plenty of bruises and swellings, but no broken bones, no concussion.   I will take it easy for the next few days, but first order of business is to go out and purchase purple eye shadow.
