Out It Goes

I packed up "hazardous waste" for the collection taking place this weekend.  It's a free service of our waste management district!

You might have thought I was a construction worker.  Paint cans, used oil, and all kinds of gunky stuff that Mike used out in the garage filled the back end of my car.  (Keep in mind I drive a Prius though.) Then I filled it again for the  regular recycle and ReUse room, plus two bags of trash. The second trip this week!

I asked my next door neighbor to come over on Thursday.  He loaded up all the kindling wood and took it away.  Well, I helped him.  They are both in their 80's and heat with wood, a lot of which he still cuts himself.

My house has two garden sheds, and the garage alone is literally the same square footage as the condo I am moving into, with a small, one car garage.  It will be quite the exercise in downsizing!

One of the prospective buyers that looked at the house wanted to know about whether or not there was storage in the attic.  Well, there is over the garage, but I told my realtor that if someone was dissatisfied with the amount of storage in this house they should seek therapy for a hoarding disorder.

Why do we accumulate so much stuff?  I have been gradually getting rid of stuff for the past several years and I am still overwhelmed by the task of preparing to move.

    Big move, big change. I moved ten years ago, into a "slightly" smaller house, downsized pretty much in every way, and now am back working on accumulating more!

    Moving is a time for purging. Sounds like you are doing a good job of it. I really need to move again. It is piling up.

    You'll be so organized in your new place - nothing you don't want or need! We're cleaning out our garage,too - so much old paint, etc. I feel for you.

    My husband says he is going to die in this house while I would like to downsize. I am starting to declutter the house but the garage....ugh!

    So you have purchased a condo already. Good for you.
    We have way too much stuff too, but we are not ready to part with it yet, so i guess we can't move for quite a while yet.

    I recently took a batch of hazardous waste to our semi-annual collection event. I had $150 in cash and was delighted when I only had to fork over $48.50.

    I love the graphic at the end of your post! I wonder if one can order that in a sampler?

    That is why I hope we never move again! My husband doesn't throw anything out! So I take it this means you found a new home?

New Furniture

 We went shopping for a new couch. I liked this one, the first store we went to. Of course it would be an impulse to buy the first one so we trekked around to other stores -- something we liked more, a better deal? No surprise that we ended up going back to that first store the next day and purchasing that couch for our living room. Also a matching love seat for the den where we watch TV. Because I had replaced my old love seat with two recliners. We couldn't keep three households worth of furniture after all. Well, my recliner was not big enough to accommodate both Levi and me. Poor boy had to watch TV from his bed on the floor. There! This is much better! Spoiled much? The little tail on the floor belongs to his toy squirrel, Buddy. It's like having a toddler with the need to be picking up toys or risk tripping over them. But his very favorite play thing is that bathmat that can be found anywhere but the bathroom floor.

Walking

 I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea.
