Looking

I have an offer that I can accept and I hope that thing progress smoothly.  The next step for me is to start looking for my next home.

I went to a few open houses for fun this weekend.  The first three made me think, "Oh, no!  What have I done?"  The fourth place was absolutely gorgeous--although just as big as my house so putting the lie to downsizing--and also more than I really want to spend.  I was not discouraged in the end.  I really feel that I will find my space.

I also relaxed considerably.  I was so stressed about my house not being perfect.
HA!  Nobody's is...well that last townhouse that I viewed was pretty darn close.

I have started packing up some things.  I am NOT a last minute kind of person.  I am the type who, in school with a paper due, would not be able to write the paper at all if I let it go to the last day.  I am not energized by looming deadlines.

The packing up so far consists of making piles--Habitat for Humanity,  Goodwill, Reuse Shed, trash.   When I get all that stuff out of the way, I think I will feel lighter.

A friend says that she cannot make those kinds of piles.  Her piles are all some version of 'keep.'

  2. Wow! You're really going quickly! We've started the process, but at a much slower pace.

  3. You are doing a great job of moving forward. Lightening the load for your move using all those options makes good sense.

  4. Love your blog! Have you considered renting an apartment? That will be the next step for me. I can use the $$ from the sale of my house anyway I like! I've always said I'd rather give it to my kids now then after I am dead. You also have a GD who will be in college soon. My oldest GS is 13- just 5 years left for him before college. I downsized when I moved here- a 1 story 2000 sq ft 2 car garage but honestly, I just want a little 2 BR apartment with no upkeep and a landlord I can call when something breaks. I don't even care if it just has 1 bath. My Virginia house had 4- just more to clean.

  5. Congrats on the pending sale so quickly. The market must be really rebounding now. Hope you do continue to look towards downsizing. With two homes, you'll want the least amount of fuss.

  7. Congrats on your pending house sale, Olga! I visited your blog from Gigi's and had a nice time reading many previous posts. we are nearly "neighbors" as we currently live in a mill apt building in NH after relocating from a small VA town last Nov. Unfortunately, our house is still available but we are hopeful for the "right" buyer. We are still downsizing too.

  8. Hope the sale goes smoothly and that you find the perfect new place! About the only good thing to come from moving is I throw out so much CLUTTER! Maybe I should just pretend we're going to move and get started!

  10. Congrats on the offer, and good luck with the house hunt. I'm certain you'll find the right place for you.

I'm like you...definitely not last minute. I sold my house in May, we were moving in July and I started sorting and packing almost immediately. I also figure that way I won't be rushed as the moving date gets closer.

  12. We found that our move to Hawaii from Illinois was good in that it forced us to clear up 35 years of accumulation. We had a huge attic too that was stuffed to the gills. Moving to a "new" place for us was renovating and moving in with my mother after buying her house from her. We would have preferred buying another place, but she wouldn't move. We'd looked at other houses that we really liked ... but you know what? We made this one work for us. I guess that's what you end up doing. I think the most treasured thing was the neighbors. Mom (we) has the best neighbors.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
