Turn That News OFF

I heard on the news the other night something about Congress wanting a second look at this deal where one can get a green card (EB5), no other questions asked, if one has half a million dollars to pay for it.  WHAT?? Who has that kind of money for green cards?  Not the people who are picking our lettuce, that is for sure.  So...Congress needs to wonder about whether or not unscrupulous persons--terrorist connected, drug dealing, human trafficking types--might take advantage of something like that??  Better late than never, I suppose.

Perhaps I am just overly cynical.  I am sure that not everyone with money to invest is unscrupulous.

I also saw the day's update on the trial of that guy who shot the American Sniper, Chris Kyle and his friend.  I did not see the movie and do not intend to.  I don't know much about the case.  But taking a PTSD sufferer to a shooting range for therapy?  WHAT??  No one else thinks that was a bad idea from the beginning?

This is why it is not good for me to watch the nightly news.

  1. It's so infuriating that people can just walk over the border and receive all the benefits you and I have earned for over 50 years. I have NO problem when immigrants work for their citizenship. I believe many terrorists are entering this way. WHY does no one higher up get this?

    1. Ann, I am not sure where you get your information, but people who walk over the border rarely get benefits that you have worked fifty years for. More likely they have "borrowed" your SS number and paid into your account if you were a homemaker! You are correct in thinking that many nationalities do come in from the south. Our migrant system is totally broken.

  2. There's so much I just don't want/need to hear on the news. But I feel I must be informed, so I allow myself to be bombarded by it.

  3. Buying a green card just seems wrong to me. Yet, in the current Congress, money talks.
Chris Kyle had taken other wounded Vets to the shooting range with good results. But even Kyle said this guy was nuts before he took him. Seems like a lapse in judgement to me.

  4. I am like you. The evening news just leaves me shaking my head in shock. I must say, "What are people thinking", 10 times a night. But like it's a train wreck, I keep watching. .

  5. This is why we gave up watching the national news. We still watch the local news -- mostly for traffic and weather -- and fast forward through the rest!

  7. I'm glad you said this, Olga. I was thinking the SAME thing. Seriously! How can they think that taking a PTSD sufferer out on a shooting range is a great idea?

  8. In America we think if you make lots of money you must be honest and hard working and everyone else is a lazy thug. Unfortunately I have some millionaire friends and not all of them made their money in constructive ways.

  9. Another movie I will not watch is 50 Shades of Grey.
Why watch people glorify sado-masochism? Ugh.

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

Walking

I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. However, we may be walking along happily enough -- me listening to the birds or trying to identify wildflowers and other plants while L...

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!
