Back in the Saddle

Well, not really...although I did go back to the InStride horse ranch to once again volunteer in their literacy program.  Forty first graders came from a nearby school showed up yesterday for the field trip--really, I don't know where they hide all the kids most of the time.  It is just enough flexing of the old teaching muscle to be fun for me.

I also had a totally new experience yesterday afternoon--I had a facial.  Not only a facial, but a foot massage while the mask did its work.  And today my face feels as soft and smooth as a newborn baby butt.  I have to seriously consider becoming a high-maintenance lady.

TV show idea: The Real Retirees of Venice.  Somebody is going to steal that idea and run with it, I just know!

    Hmmm! Interesting imagery, but all is good as long as it feels that way, and not necessarily looks that way.

    Your facial sounds so relaxing! I haven't had one in years. I should get some stuff and let Amara give me one. We'd both like it.

    I want my face to look as young and soft as a baby's butt. I do not really care if it feels that way. I had a facial a while back, but it was not anything great, I think. Now a full body massage is something I would love to have again someday.

    It must be nice for you to get a little 'teachery' feeling now and then. I haven't had a facial in years. They put me to sleep!

    I think the show would be a hit! I know I'd watch it.

    It's always feels good to have someone pamper us. I had my hair done yesterday (color and cut) and my favorite part is having my hair washed. It feels so good and so relaxing.

    I keep thinking of sending Woody Allen snippets from my life. I would love to have him develop my ideas and make a movie out of them. No need to pay me. The joy would come from seeing my scenarios on the screen.

    I loved having my first mani pedi and vowed to go back every month. I've only been back once because its so time consuming. But its not like I have that heavy a schedule.

    By coincidence, B went to have a facial the day before yesterday, the first time, she said, in about ten years. She admitted that it was expensive, and incredibly self-indulgent. And then she said: "I'm definitely going back!"

    You need to claim that title before someone else does. Facials are the best. Foot massages even better. Take care of yourself. No one else will.

    By the way, as you probably guessed, we didn't make it to Venice. I wanted to so badly, but we just didn't want to drive that far from Orlando. I had neglected to record your email address on my iPad, so I didn't send you a note to let you know that our trip did not allow a trip to your area. Maybe next time...

    I love facials but must be careful now that the potions and lotions are organic so they don't have formaldehyde and are lanolin free. Don't worry - I've found a place her in Breck that fits that description. Pampering might not make me look younger, but it sure makes me feel better about being 70!

    I've never had a facial or a pedicure. I got a few gift certificates from students, but I would pass them on to my happy daughter. Now you've got me wishing I'd tried them.

 It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. New Furniture

 We went shopping for a new couch. I liked this one, the first store we went to. Of course it would be an impulse to buy the first one so we trekked around to other stores -- something we liked more, a better deal? No surprise that we ended up going back to that first store the next day and purchasing that couch for our living room. Also a matching love seat for the den where we watch TV. Because I had replaced my old love seat with two recliners. We couldn't keep three households worth of furniture after all. Well, my recliner was not big enough to accommodate both Levi and me. Poor boy had to watch TV from his bed on the floor. There! This is much better! Spoiled much? The little tail on the floor belongs to his toy squirrel, Buddy. It's like having a toddler with the need to be picking up toys or risk tripping over them. But his very favorite play thing is that bathmat that can be found anywhere but the bathroom floor.

Walking

 I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea.
