Still Busy

It is grey and drippy outside...so very gloomy and yet I have not started packing for Florida.  My house is a mess--everything from the kitchen sitting on and around the dining table.  However!  The kitchen is painted.  The bathroom is painted.  The cabinets are stained and covered with one coat of polyurethane.  I will let that dry for a couple of days.  I think I will actually complete my ambitious plan.

Then it will be turning my attention to some Christmas shopping and baking.  Yesterday was a break day, or brake day as the case may be.  I went to the annual Christmas lunch and gathering of the card making group.   It was a festive time and fun, but I did miss my friend Ginnie.  (There were a few of those moments when a good kick under the table was in order, Gin! Maybe it is just as well.  My legs are already black and blue from clutzing around with the ladder.)

I am hoping that the rain does not start to freeze so I can pick the grand kids up after school today and have them here for the weekend.  I guess I will have to clean up enough in the kitchen that we can maybe do some candy making or baking.

They are probably going to be distressed that I scaled back to basic cable and all the children's channels they watch are not on the plan.  I'll call it character building.

I watched The Sound of Music last night.  I would have much preferred to see it in a theater.  I have little tolerance for commercial interruptions.  I don't have DVR service which is one thing I would really use.  Even On-Demand has commercials that cannot be fast forwarded now.

I realized I always thought Carrie Underwood and Kelley Clarkson were the same person.  So I enjoyed the play and learned something as well.

  1. Even my college grandchildren would be unhappy if I got rid of the cartoon channels. How sad is that? lol

  2. Wow, you are being productive. I am glad you are having the grandkids over. I always love to have mine over, too.

  3. We're gray and gloomy here as well, but I love the warmth of the indoor Christmas decorations. I know the ads on SOM were annoying, but even in the theater, there are breaks to change costumes and scenery. You're really amazing -- I can't believe how busy you've been.

  5. I have tried to downsize my cable..but I have an upgraded version which includes the kids channels and many sports channels for the guys. I do not get any movie channels, but we do pay for the rare on-demand as we rarely go to movies except over the winter holidays. Have a safe trip south. We will be in FLorida the end of January...maybe our paths will cross ;-)

  6. Wow that's a lot of work! You are truly ambitious.

Enjoy the weekend with the grandchildren. I am having my niece overnight Saturday. She's 11 and this will be the first time. We're planning to set up the Christmas tree, wrap a few gifts and do a little sewing....it will be interesting!

  7. You have been busy! We are on the Big Island and doing absolutely nothing.

I will miss my granddaughters this year between Christmas and New Year. Their mom and stepdad moved this summer so the girls will be with their dad during the school break instead of at Grandma's house.

  9. I really enjoyed Sound of Music; had never seen the Julie version so it was all new to me. I think Carrie did a great job, and the hair, costumes, and the house were beautiful.
This is the first time I've seen your blog, and I'll be back to read more. Have a happy holiday, and by that I mean Christmas!

  10. I hope your weather held up and you got the grand children OK, and hope they can deal with the reduced cable offerings. It will be like a Zen retreat for them. They will survive.

More bad weather is heading our way today. Hope it misses you.

  11. I am way behind in my reading and I apologize! I sure hope you and the grandchildren had fun making candy -- and messing up your newly painted kitchen!

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

New Furniture

We went shopping for a new couch. I liked this one, the first store we went to. Of course it would be an impulse to buy the first one so we trekked around to other stores -- something we liked more, a better deal? No surprise that we ended up going back to that first store the next day and purchasing that couch for our living room. Also a matching love seat for the den where we watch TV. Because I had replaced my old love seat with two recliners. We couldn't keep three households worth of furniture after all. Well, my recliner was not big enough to accommodate both Levi and me. Poor boy had to watch TV from his bed on the floor. There! This is much better! Spoiled much? The little tail on the floor belongs to his toy squirrel, Buddy. It's like having a toddler with the need to be picking up toys or risk tripping over them. But his very favorite play thing is that bathmat that can be found anywhere but the bathroom floor.

Walking

I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. However, we may be walking along happily enough -- me listening to the birds or trying to identify wildflowers and other plants while L...
