Whew. What a time. Mike is still in the ICU. I will not say that he is entirely out of the woods, but he does seem to be on the right path.
He has been able to get up and walk about 25 feet. He has been able to sit up in a chair for a couple of hours at a time. His breathing is okay and they took him off supplemental oxygen yesterday. His kidneys are slowly improving and are doing their job. They have managed to relieve some of his joint pain with prednisone so that he can get up without compromising his chest healing process. He still has some belly bloating and infection, but he is not in pain from that and they are now seeing signs of return to function there.
I am amazed every day at how hard he is working to get well. I would not have really predicted that he would be so compliant with all the nursing routines in particular. As long as he is always told exactly what they are doing and why, he is putting up with being poked and drained and turned and all manner of indignities. He is alert and involved.
And me...I am so very grateful for the support from all sides.

I am so glad he is recovering so well. Keep it up, Mike. And, Olga, please continue to keep us all informed. Prayers for both of you.
ReplyDeleteThank God, he turned the corner and I hope he continues to improve with no further setbacks. This has had to have been a living hell for you both. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers, and hopefully Mike will be able to come home soon. Remember to take care of yourself as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update.
Well, that sounds like progress. I'm hoping for the best. I'm also hoping you can both get some rest.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad to hear all this. I've been watching for an update, was encouraged when I saw your comment over at AG the other day. I figured you wouldn't be commenting on blogs if things had gotten worse...
ReplyDeleteI think it's wonderful that Mike wants to know WHY he's being asked to do some things. I always want to envision what's happening to me when I'm supposed to be doing something to heal myself. I think it helps the process, and I'm glad to know that he's interested!
Good report!
I have been anxious to hear how he was doing and am so pleased that he is progressing. Great that he is a good patient. That attitude should go a long way helping his recovery.
ReplyDeletePlease keep us updated when ever you get a little spare time. Will be keeping you both in my prayers.
SO glad to see your post this morning and glad that Mike is on his way to a full recovery. Don't forget to take care of yourself, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a roller coaster! Such stress for both of you. Hope Mike continues on the healing path. I'm thinking of you here in CO.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a time you both have had! I'll continue praying that he soon is well enough to not only get freed from ICU, but also that he's able to go home! Sometimes, it's baby steps that accomplish the most!

Muff
