Oh! The sun made a brief appearance this morning. It didn't warm things up very much, but at least we know that it is still out there somewhere. May be it was crying for help: Rescue me from all these clouds and rain!!
I put my winter jacket away yesterday. It's not that it too warm to wear it (it's not) but that is May already. I am going to wear my spring jacket. So what if I have two sweaters on underneath it.
I have not done this for a long time. My this-week's-to-do list is so long that I have started next week's list.
The woodchuck (family?) has burrowed two tunnels under the garden shed. One was bad enough, now they have a condominium development out there. I was in the shed the other day and I jumped up and down screaming, "Go away!" I believe that had no effect whatsoever. At least they have not started chomping down my plants because the plants have not started growing yet. If only there was a way to get the darn critters to eat weeds down to the ground.
The tree people arrived today--a little earlier than I had expected. That is fine because they are getting to that box elder before it starts its shedding act. Once that is taken care of I will have someone clean and restain the deck and clean the moss off the garage roof. Then I will be able to haul out the deck furniture. I remain optimistic that summer will arrive eventually.
I read this article that was posted on Facebook that was a warning about climate change is likely to impact the supply of certain foods. Maple syrup is among the foods that may be disappearing. It was certainly a poor season in VT this year. Even more concerning: coffee and chocolate may become scarce. If this is not a reason to spur some activism, I do not know what is!! Wine regions are also in danger. This is definitely NOT the kind of world I want to leave for my grandchildren.

Come out, come out, wherever you are!
I will agree with you on chocolate, coffee, and wine, but maple syrup? Never acquired a taste for it. None the less, climate change is rather frightening.
ReplyDeleteOMG! You use fake syrup. Best not come to VT ever. Seriously, at the very least you will be charged extra if you ask for the fake stuff on your breakfast pancakes.
DeleteThe fake stuff tastes just as bad as the real stuff...just a bit cheaper, but I despise that too as well as any food that one would be inclined to use it on.
DeleteNo I don't use fake syrup or real syrup and I haven't had a pancake or waffle in 45 years, an absolutely wretched meal.
Okay, you are off the hook.
DeleteGo West Young .........rain! We are looking at more drought and it will be a wonder if we can make it another year. The further west you go the worse it is. Pretty soon I won't have a forest around my property, only dead or dying trees.
ReplyDeleteI know that there are areas of severe drought. I would love to send them some rain. There is a definite design flaw in world weather patterns.
DeleteCoffee is already struggling in Hawaii. The whole climate change thing is so very scary. Hawaii will lose a lot of ocean front when the water level rises.
ReplyDeleteThe citrus farms in Florida have been hard hit by disease. Breakfast is getting more and more expensive.
DeleteAhhh... I just reread the part about your woodchucks. They're just like our chipmunks in Illinois. They must be bigger than our chipmunks.
DeleteChocolate??? Noooooo! Wine??? Noooooo!
ReplyDeleteHope that the sun makes another appearance soon. We've been enjoying such gorgeous weather, and I hate to rub it in. It sort of makes up for the horrible winter we had!
We had a sunny day afterall today--cool, but sunny.
DeleteAnd you failed to mention that the lime industry is under pressure and now run by the drug cartels in Mexico because they can make more money from it!! Clilmate change willnot impact the rich...just the 99%
ReplyDeleteOh, I had not even heard about this revolting development.
DeleteThe weather has just gone crazy! It was in the HIGH 90s here 4 days last week. We have dropped back to low 70s but everything is confused. My plumeria that normally won't bloom until late summer flowered yesterday? I do wish I could send you some of this heat and I do wish someone could send us some rain -- what have we done? And yes, it was all over the news here about celebrating Cinco de Mayo with no limes!
ReplyDeleteCinco de Mayo without limes? That's no fun. I drought is no fun either.
DeleteWell that is sad. Indeed if the threat of disappearing chocolate doesn't spur people into action I don't know what will.
ReplyDeleteI know! I am writing my Congresspeople.
DeleteMoss on your garage roof?? I have never heard of such a thing! It was 98 degrees here on Monday, mid 90's today, but then we have two seasons here in my part of Texas... windy or hotter than heck.
ReplyDeleteYou must live in a dry climate.
DeleteI heard where coffee my become priced out of the average persons range. It may become served only at the manors like fine wine. Hate to see what happens when the poor folks go into caffeine withdrawal.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I would fare without my morning cup of coffee. Things sould get ugly.
DeleteIt's true, Olga. We've had good and bad years for maple syrup around here.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked that poem. You are my role model in this respect.
cheers
Thanks, Jennifer.
DeleteOh, I do hope you enjoy your deck soon, despite the chilly weather. I still haven't had my BBQ dinner in my patio, yet. Lol. As for Maple syrup, I love it and since there is so little left in my jug, David will buy more at Costco today.
ReplyDeleteWe had breakfast at the diner yesterday. My friend ordered pancakes. He opted for the real maple syrup, at extra cost. They brought the little jar containing 1 1/2 ounces ... and it cost $2.50!
ReplyDeleteHmmm - I wonder what the woodchucks thought... Once my father-in-law scared a porcupine from under our deck using the jump and yell tactic. (He might be scarier than you though...)
