Ugly Shoes

Being from Vermont, I am of course quite familiar with ugly shoes.   So, Margaret Finnegan, consider these.  I really want the fabulous prize.

Birkenstocks are always a favorite, but it is cold in Vermont much of the time so socks are a must.

Clogs are poplar, too.  Sometimes they are worn with socks as well, but you really get the full ugly effect by going without socks and without ever attending to the layers and layers of built up callousing on the heels.

Vermont teens are tough.  They wear flop flops like everyone else...

or Uggs or mukluks, depending on what would be considered most inappropriate.

And we certainly cannot forget barn boots:

In recent years, Crocs are more and more common.  They are especially attractive with the fuzzy lining.
I guess they should be considered more colorful clogs so the lack of foot care still applies.

This is what I most dread about the future:

I have yet to see a pair like this walking around Jericho, Vermont, but I suppose it's a matter of time.

  1. When it comes to ugly shoes, I would give 'crocs' my vote. Of course I've never worn them and I'm told they are very comfy. Give me plain ol' Nike's tennis shoes every day for comfort... and Wellies if I need to be in the yard.

  2. In the past I loved my Birkenstocks, sometimes wearing socks with them, and I love my lined Crocs. They are ugly and look ridiculous, but are so comfy. I have a pair of Emu boots (similar to Uggs) bought last year that I lived in this winter. They are my new favorite shoe by far. Too bad it is too warm to wear them all summer!

    1. I have never actually owned a pair of Birkenstocks...and I don't drive a Subaru. I am a disgrace to Vermont.

  3. I don't like the look of Crocs, but I'm sure they're very comfortable. I do love Birkenstocks and clogs, though. My mom actually wears those shoes you dread!
    Peace,

  4. I go barefooted indoors, but wear rubber slippers or SAS sandals when I am outside.

    1. I am barefooted most of the time--sometimes even when I am outside.

  5. Kind of wish I could wear shoes like that but I am stuck with feet that need orthodics tucked away in lace up sneakers. Sigh.

    1. And as I recall, you do have a stockpile of those lace up sneakers. :)

  6. Loved this post. I hope I don't have to wear the dreaded shoes, but the way things are going, I just might find myself in them!

  7. I no longer care what my footwear looks like, so long as I am comfortable.

  9. Well, I'm actually a fan of Birkenstocks, vir the Crocs are awful and those brown shoes just make me sad. Who will win with such a bounty of good choices!

  10. I really want a pair of Crocs for wearing out in the backyard when the grass is wet but my daughter has forbidden it and she still thinks she is in charge!

  11. I LOVE Berks! I had several pais in Illinois. I wonder where they are now. I could actually wear those here. I like certain Crocs but not those. I just don't find them comfortable, but my granddaughter LOVES hers.
