Trigger Warning: Political Opinion

I can go for long periods of time without watching the news, a skill developed and honed over the last five years or so. But then I start to wonder what I am missing or I have to stay on my belly for a week and I learn anew that there is some kind of parallel  universe out there.

Why is it that those who so strongly feel it is a total violation of their God given rights to be told to wear a mask feel perfectly free to demand others take off their masks?

If "Fox-itis" were a legitimate defense for getting caught up storming the Capital Building, should there be a public health warning posted at the beginning of each of their shows?

The focus on election fraud has been going on for so long (long before the 2020 election even) I am starting to wonder if real investigation should be into the legitimacy of the 2016 election.

No fan of Liz Cheney and her political ideology but to remove her while simultaneously declaring her party the big tent that welcomes open expression and exploration of ideas strikes me as the definition of disingenuous.

What some saw as a mob of angry rioters wielding makeshift but well planned weapons and bent on destruction and bodily harm to others is now seen by some as flag waving patriots out for a tour of the nations capital. if that is not alternative universes, I can't imagine what is.

  3. Dear Olga, while any demonstration is bound to include a few trouble-makers, for the most part, (like 99.9% :) on January 6th, i saw alot of upstanding American conservatives. Alot of men ... years fed up with the namby-pamby mind-games going on.

  4. Totally agree with you. "that those who so strongly feel it is a total violation of their God given rights to be told to wear a mask feel perfectly free to demand others take off their masks?" Boy did that hit home. Thanks.

  6. As a Canadian, I watched in horror the events of January 6. How anyone can suggest it was a tour is beyond me.
We have our own groups of individuals who feel their personal privilege over rules the collective rights of the citizens. One of the leaders is a RWNJ who ran for the leadership of the Conservative party (similar to your Republicans) and lost by a slight margin. I shudder to think where we would be now had he been elected.
Thankfully, Fox is not part of the TV package I subscribe to...it's enough to see clips on Twitter.

  7. Yup, alternative universes is the right terminology for this craziness.

  8. I agree with all you said. Always lovely and refreshing to have it confirmed that there are still sane people in our beloved Country.

  10. AGREE!! oh boy you got me going Olga - There were no good people there on January 6th period. All had one objection and they proved it. That is why there were there. Not a good person in the bunch if you ask me or anyone sane. They wouldn't have been there if good. They knew what they were there for, their weapons proved it. And how good is any human who thinks that anything that trump says is true, comes from a good place for anyone other than himself. What a crock of bs that people there were good men. They were angry white men who hate everyone but angry white men. Period. end of story. They are also so stupid they think that ole fat trump will help them. He only wants to help himself. he is a dictator, not someone who understands or knows democracy, hell he can't spell it. Do yourself a favor - stay away from the news. The good news though he is up for criminal charges and I do believe they will stick. He will sing like a canary and probably even allow his kids to take a fall. Either way, if charged and convicted he's toast! That by far is the best news in the last century. oh, and btw, you don't just get to tour the capitol. I live here. I had to make an appointment for a tour. You can enter but you don't get to tour unless escorted. Whew

  11. It would seem that Sue, comment above, is one of those who are self deluding that waving a flag and wearing a MAGA hat while supporting hate and lies is acting in a parotitic manner. I would like to know if she believes the big lie. I'm confused about the namby-pamby remark, considering we were just coming off of Donald Trump.
I also find it ironic that said "patriotic conservatives" don't want to be told what to do about protecting their health by wearing a mask, but they can tell women what they can and can't do with their bodies. Sheesh!
I watch the news on a regular basis. I have opinions. But so often I have to admit that what I am reacting to is outside of my s[here on influence. Being informed is frustrating.

  12. Had to almost laugh, the local polling place ran out of republican ballots three times. Yep, i live in a very republican area, and love it.

  13. Yes, they should do an investigation about the 2016 election as well.

  14. Well, you KNOW I agree with you 100%. I just read that the defense those insurrectionists are using now is that they were just caught up in the moment. Never mind that they brought that noose for Pence or bear sprays, zip cuffs, etc. that all prove premeditation.

  15. Seems to me that those that think Jan 6 was a false flag operation and done to defame the former President's crew...would strongly support a commission to uncover that!

  16. It is ridiculous that there are politicians trying to call what happened on January 6 a tour. Of course, don't all tours start off by building a gallows for the vice president, and other people they don't like, and also feature spraying bear spray in police officers faces, forcing police officers heads in automatic closing doors and tormenting them, stealing furniture from the tour site, breaking glass windows, stabbing toward police with pointed flag poles, and urinating all over floors. That's not a tour that normal people would be interested in taking.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
