Back North

We have returned to Vermont. The trip was uneventful, which is the way one wants a long trip like that to be. No trouble finding gas although the price was not always friendly. Traffic around Washington to Baltimore is to be expected. It was slow but not completely stopped.

I missed the crab apples in blossom and the lilac beside the deck has a pathetic display of blossoms this year. But the rhododendrons are in bloom and all the trees are nicely green. We had rain last night and I am watching a robin pluck worms out of the grass -- through the slider to the deck, windows badly in need of a wash.

I am anxious to get things done around here and anxious to see Kevin and Amy, Dane and Kristen. They will have to come here though. I don't feel safe to drive yet.

The gas bubble in my eye is shrinking and I can now see through the space above it. On one hand, that is encouraging because it tells me I will have vision back eventually. On the other hand, that little window of vision is giving me double vision and the ball is small enough to be bouncing around in my eye ball that in a way kind of makes me sea sick. I put a patch over it when it gets too annoying.

I think I deserve a rich fantasy life these days:

  1. OH, you made my afternoon! That meme is a hoot.
Well, you just be a pirate Olga, whatever you need to do to get this back. So glad the trip was uneventful.
Traffic around these parts? say it ain't so!
Did you do I-95 up? That had to be fun, she says sarcastically.

  2. So glad you made it back with no problems. So glad you had your driver after you described the bouncing ball in your vision. That would have made even being a passenger rough. Hope it is gone soon and vision has returned to normal.

  3. I hope it is good to be home, or home in your summer home. Your eye issue has been quite an ordeal. I wish you well!

  4. Glad your trip north went well. A visit with your family is definitely due.

    Good luck with the eye!

  5. I still have not had my macular hole repaired. I keep having other medical problems that have intervened.

My close vision in the hole-y eye is terrible, but peripheral vision is good. In the house I am fine, but often when I go outside I feel not exactly dizzy, but off kilter, I have a walker from my past knee surgery, and I use it outside because of this eye problem. How do you do pouring things. I have to pay close attention or I miss the cup.
I dread the recovery time after the macular hole surgery. I fear I won't do it right or my neck and shoulders will hurt too much, and I'll hold my head wrong for too long. I really want to get this surgery done by mid July. Right now I've been battling cellulitis and weird heavy nosebleeds which I am having 2 or three times a week, one was chemically cauterized. I never had a nosebleed before this month
in my entire life. Can you imagine how miserable it would be having a face down nose bleed. I can't.

It is wonderful that you are able to travel like you have been so soon after the eye surgery. I hope your recovery continues to go well.

  6. Oh, dear, I am sorry to hear of all the things your are dealing with. A nose bleed while doing the post retina recovery would be terrible. I was able to rent a chair massage set up that did help with the positioning and I got myself audible books. At night I wedged myself into bed with couch cushions, pillows and books so it was hard to roll around but if I did roll toward the left side I would hit a book that might wake me up. You will find your way.
Yes, the pouring of liquids is a problem, picking little things up, getting a key in the lock!

  7. Margaret, we did take I-95 from Jacksonville through Baltimore and then took route 81. Would usually take 81 to avoid congestion but I couldn't go to through the mountain elevations. But I wasn't going to attempt NJ and NYC.

  8. Hope the eye clears up soon. No fun having an eye like that. On the other hand, it looks like you have a nice place to live in.

  9. I know how you feel. Nice reward to having some good-looking many tell you how sexy your are. YOu can always stop here for an overnight. We are an hour south of the beltway around Washington. You sound like you are full of energy.

  10. I'm so glad you're safely home, Olga. Wow! That eye problem sounds so annoying. I sure hope it heals in record time.

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

Walking

I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. However, we may be walking along happily enough -- me listening to the birds or trying to identify wildflowers and other plants while L...

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!
