I have often asked how people can believe some of the things they seem to believe.
I have often asked friends and family, "what do "they" see that I don't? Don't "they" watch the news?"
Turns out that "they" don't see the same things I see and really don't see the same news that I see. Literally.
I watched The Social Dilemma, a Netflix documentary. It scared the bejeezus out of me.
A trailer here.
Check it out if you can, but be prepared for your brain to hurt and your heart to break.
Interesting video.
ReplyDeletedid you think that destroying your own children's future would have no consequence? We millennials are now full blown communists, and you boomers are going to watch your country become communist before you finally drop dead
ReplyDeleteDemocratic socialism with regulated capitalism is NOT communism.
DeleteI heard a little about this on the radio yesterday but I wasn't paying close attention.
ReplyDeleteIt did make me aware that I only receive progressive links on Facebook, and I wonder where my sister and other family members get the crap they share. I guess we are all being programmed to reinforce what we already think. I do try to find and read other points of view, but the conspiracy theories floating around out there baffle me. How could anyone believe that stuff? But then, if that's the only thing they are exposed to,.....
I will watch the documentary. What are you doing to recover from it? I might need help.
Dear Olga and Friends, if the technicians are watching me, i hope they have plenty of strong coffee.
ReplyDeleteI know my family and I don't see the same news I do and it is a problem because I really think they are being brainwashed. Of course, they think the same about me. Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteI'm testing your comments to see if I can get through when Peg at Straight UP, No Chaser can't. I hate that she's having trouble like that.
Probably a good thing I don't have Netflix for I need my bejeezus right where it is. Scary.
ReplyDeleteI read an article a while back that interviewed some internet security experts for the government. All of them said that they would never join FB which I never did because of privacy concerns. So after reading your post about the Netflix documentary, as I patted myself on my back for my judicious avoidance of FB, I opened Amazon and at the bottom of the page I found a collection of Anne Dillard titles under the heading of "Because You Are Reading Pilgrim At Tinker Creek." Yesterday I found a quote in my Kindle edition that I sent to a friend. Today Big Brother Jeff Bezos wants me to see the other Dillard titles that I should buy.
ReplyDeleteImagine the conversations and activities that Alexa, et al, must be capturing for their corporate masters to review and file forever. I refuse to have one of those contraption listening in. I am probably absurdly naive about that as well. Perhaps I should get tin foil and putty and place over the microphone and video camera ports on all my devices.
ACKKK! Comment moderation! I had a long comment here but when I replied to anonymous it disappeared.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just social media. ALL media is bought and paid for by the powers that be; 5 mega rich, all powerful, evil white dudes who don't give a rat's ass about anything but money.
ReplyDeleteMIKE -- Replying with this new and improved Blogger is major suckage. I usually just delete anonymous comments but this one was SO very informed that I thought I would share for giggles.
ReplyDeleteLINDA REEDER -- I am not particularly attached to my phone but my iphone is my only phone and my pandemic life would be bleak without Zoom keeping me in touch with my normal activities but I really didn't want to touch either after watching the documentary. Anything with the potential for good also has the potential for evil. We need to be vigilant and aware!
SEXTANT -- trying to get us to buy stuff is but the tip of the iceberg. We are the product that is being sold and the manipulation of behavior is frightening beyond my comprehension.
Olga - Not that I was trying to take over your blog, but I was trying the reply button for Peggy and that seemed like one that needed replying too. I want to drive to Peggy's house and fix her computer for her! I've suggested several things and she's either tried them or they don't help.
DeleteI think that Anonymous comment was spam. I've been getting hit by quite a bit of spam since I started blogging again on Monday. Annoying as heck, but I've been marking them as spam and hope that helps. I know what you mean about people not seeing the same thing. I have cousins and other family members who are Trump supporters. I just don't understand it. It's like a cult thing.
