The Times

This sign was on the desk in my hotel room last month when I was driving to VT from Florida. I suppose it is a sign of the changing times we live in. I had not seen a sign like this before.

I spent one night is South Carolina just south of the North Carolina border. I spent the next night in Pennsylvania and it was an easy drive home the following day. On the second night of the trip the hotel room had this arrangement in the bathroom:

This struck me as quite funny.  I can only assume that they got tired of hearing complaints about the old under/over controversy. Everyone knows that the under is correct but some people just want to be contrarians all the time.
I did get back to Vermont in time for the very short strawberry season and it has been an good one! I have seen bigger berries but these are such a deep and luscious red and sweet, sweet, sweet.
My friend gave me a bunch of frozen bananas. Following a pin a saw recently on Pinterest, I put the bananas in my high powered blender with some strawberries and whirred it into a soft ice cream consistency. No other ingredients. It makes a refreshing dessert (great if you know a vegan) and I also use it for smoothies with some protein powder and some oat milk. I leave out the protein powder and use regular 1% milk for my friend.

I am not a vegan, by the way. Not even a professed vegetarian, but I don't eat a whole lot of meat. I definitely think that having Lyme disease a couple years ago affected my ability to handle beef especially.

  1. Deep red strawberries are wonderful, and local. They are too perishable to be grown for the commercial market, i.e. California strawberries.
Obviously you are incorrect about the ove/under thing. I have been known to change toilet paper in someone else's house because it was going under, not over. :-) It is funny that they hung it both ways.

    1. HaHa! Good thing we don't visit each other. We would be switching the toilet roll back and forth!

  2. I'm an over gal too and nothing like the strawberries planted in the nice dark soil in the Midwest- not the large tasteless ones we see at the grocery store. Here in Florida where I live (Hi- I've been here 23 years now) I don't even find the Plant City ones everyone brags about that good.

    1. Plant City strawberries have nowhere near the juicy texture and sweet taste, I agree.

  3. I was typing and it just blinked and poof - gone. Anyhow Olga, how would they know if someone is smoking from a vape? There is no smell. Cameras? The TP is a hoot. My husband, like your commenter above actually goes in others homes and changes it to over. He keeps saying, Over the Falls, Not Under the Falls. I don't care what one does, as long as it is over in my home I don't much care about others TP. I thought at first you were going to have another pic with another toilet and that would have been awful. We looked at a house like that one - two toilets side by side. (no not a bidet) I guess some people like to poo together. Too much closeness for me. :-)

    1. Thanks for persisting! Side by side toilets is a bit much. A lot much actually.

  4. Olga, it looks like you're in the TP minority ... I'm an over too. Beautiful strawberries!

  5. Those strawberries look delicious. I'm not sure if the U-pick farms will be open in our area, I hope so, as I've been buying ones from Mexico. Smoothies for breakfast are so good.

I have to laugh because, like so many others who have commented, I'm an over TP person too. You've been out numbered. Hotels in Canada have had signs like that for many years, but they don't typically indicate marijauna.

    Have a great day!

  6. I love that sign. It's bad to sleep in a room where the previous tenant smoked.

  7. The under is correct? THAT THAR BE FIGHTING WORDS! It's WAY more effort to pull when you have to reach under and grab, as compared to gently running your fingers over the top and let gravity take it's course! Duh! (LOL)

  8. Laughed out loud at over and under. I am an over girl myself and shake my head when I see under.:))
That easy recipe sounds delicious and easy. Think I will get bananas and strawberries next time at the store. Thanks.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
