I tend to not be a worrier -- even at times when a dose of worry might be well placed to spur some beneficial action.
My grandson started middle school last fall and he really seemed to like it. It appeared that he had made a nice connection with his science teacher in particular.
He was excited about the subject and asked for a microscope for his Christmas present.
When schools closed for the pandemic I wasn't worried that he would not keep learning. When he gets interested in something he goes all in.
Now, I don't remember if I wrote about my eyes bothering me early this year. It was an allergic reaction to the glaucoma drops I was using. It was painful and ugly. I was walking around with bloody eyes for way too long.
And, my grandson? He was So excited to show me microscopic pictures of the "tiny arachnids that live in your eye lashes."
I won't traumatize anyone by including the picture he sent me. My eye doctor confirmed the information and suggested I tell Dane about water bears. (He already knew all about them, but he and my eye doctor are two of a kind.)
So he got his microscope but in the future I will try to think more long term when indulging his interests.
I gave him a rock-hounding kit for his birthday in February. Because I like rocks a whole lot better than bugs.
Ewww! I'm not even going to look this up. What I don't know won't hurt me, right?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely.
DeleteFunny that your grandson wanted a microscope just like mine does. Hope their interest in it lasts. Hey, Olga, you look great in that picture.
ReplyDeleteYou mention of your grandson's wanting a microscope inspired this post.
DeleteThanks, that was from last summer.
I agree with Eileen.
ReplyDeleteHowever those water bears are interesting. I think we have unintentionally planted some on the moon with our landings. Think his leaning towards science is cool.
I should Google these bugs but I'm not going to. I don't think I want to know.
ReplyDeleteYou really don't want to know! There are things I wish I could unsee.
DeleteOK that was a bit gross, but I think it is real cool that your grandson is into science. Maybe he can teach our gov't leaders some of it. :-)
ReplyDeleteHa ha ... you might be surprised by what he finds in those rocks!
ReplyDeleteI have looked under racks before.
DeleteAmazing all the bugs that live on us and clean up our detritus. Just like mini-vultures, they contribute to cleanliness.
ReplyDeleteyeah, not looking it up. nope. no way, jose.
ReplyDeleteThe world truly needs more scientific minds, so good for your grandson! Thanks for not posting the images though! ;)
ReplyDeleteMay he always have teachers and Grandmother who will encourage him with his scientific interests.
ReplyDeleteTotally excellent. I was never that interested in science but I could always imagine there might be so much of interest to see. I have always spent a lot of time looking at nature with my Grand Girls in hopes they might have a life long interest in it.
