I returned to Vermont just in time for the 2020 heat wave. There have been eight days in a row now that have reached temperatures in the 90's. It is somewhat unusual to have eight days that reach that high through an entire summer as a rule.
Of course I was used to hot weather having arrived from Florida. The big difference is in the ubiquity of air conditioning in Florida as opposed to the occasional window units here in VT. I have a small window air conditioner that I put upstairs. Fans and window shades keep the downstairs cool enough for me -- not cool enough for most people probably.
I met up with my friend Donna M. (I have an unusual number of same-named friends) who is my walking buddy and we walked for two hours. She talks pretty much the whole time and I kind of drift in and out of listening/being lost in my own thoughts.
My first walk after returning to Vermont is always rude. There is a difference between breathing at sea level and breathing in the mountains. It takes an adjustment!
I was sparkling!
We are usually hugging kind of friends but we did physically distance!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at the "sparkle" I was probably 17 and I was at a friends with some of the cheerleading squad. After our practice we went inside and one of the girls said, "wow am I sweating" Her mother says, "Girls, girls, listen - Boys sweat, Women glow"
ReplyDeleteWe laughed because she was dead serious - one of those. So you were glowing and sparkling :-)
I'd say two hours of walking in the heat would be an achievement, let alone adjusting to the altitude. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you did physically distance... but great that you could get out and visit with someone. Isn't it strange when you're used to hugging to not be able to. It's one of reasons we don't see family... don't think I could refrain from hugging them (especially grand daughter).
ReplyDeleteKnow all about that walking on level ground compared to hills. I had to learn to breathe here in the Ozarks after Florida.
ReplyDeleteLucky you having two homes to get the best weather from both (despite this little heat wave.)
ReplyDeleteIt's been hot here, as well. We're headed for a drought.
ReplyDeleteYou are certainly adaptable. Since the Artic Circle village in Siberia had temps over 100F I am not surprised that Vermont has a heat wave.
ReplyDeleteTwo hour walk ... I'm impressed! I saw the other day on the weather report that it was hotter in Caribou, Maine than it was in Tampa, Florida. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteStay in AC
ReplyDeleteThat was quite a walk, especially if it was in the 90s. I've been having trouble with the heat down here. Even Buddy seems content with a small walk.
ReplyDeleteGood gosh! Two hours??? You must have walked 8 miles! Good for you.
