Did you get to see the super moon?
It was a bit cloudy here tonight but glimpses were abundant enough. Such a beautiful sight, it kind of takes my breath -- somehow way more magical than a large ball of rock in the sky.
They say it is the worm moon, apparently because the ground is starting to thaw so the worms are starting to wiggle through it and robins are returning and looking for a fat, tasty worm for breakfast. Something like that, totally irrelevant story here in Florida.
I had always heard the March full moon referred to as the sap moon because that is when sap starts running and farmers in Vermont collect the sap to boil down to sweet maple syrup. A Vermont story of practicality, but again totally irrelevant to anything happening here in Florida.
Some moon inspired music:
Perry Como (my parents wouldn't miss his show)
Frank Ocean (I personally like this version better but it would break my parents' hearts to hear it)
Cat Stevens (college days)
Van Morrison (also my college days era although I like his music better now than I did then)
Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong (classic)

I’ve always liked Moon Shadow and have it on my playlist. Darn! I missed the Super Moon. I’m so glad you got to see it though.
ReplyDeleteIt was gorgeous! First thought that went through my head was Sinatra (fly me to the moon) but I'd have to say my favorite is Shame on the Moon - Bob Segar
ReplyDeleteAww, it was overcast here and couldn't see it. As for Perry Como, I LOVED that man and was lucky to meet him twice. He really was the nice family man people thought he was.
ReplyDeleteI love Moon River, sung by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. David used to play it on his clarinet at our family parties before selling it eventually.
ReplyDeleteI always liked Neil Young's Harvest Moon, I always liked Moon Shadow, too. directly I loved the Super Moon this time. At night it lined up exactly with our front door and shined in brightly. I spent quite awhile pre-dawn viewing it from my front door.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been partial to Blue Moon from crooner day’s. In later years a favored tine is Moon Dance.
ReplyDeleteNo, didn't know about the super moon. Was it only in the States ? I am in England. Love all the moon references though.
