Allow me a moment to rant. Not too many people read my blog anyway but i can't keep this inside.
Florida Senators introduced a resolution honoring the 17 victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School two years ago. In his statement Sen. Scott said, "we must do everything in our power to honor the memory of the victims and ensure no family has to go through this pain again.”
The resolution passed unanimously but I have to point out "everything in our power" does not seem to include working on any kind of meaningful gun control.
I wonder how much comfort the families take from this gesture. It's not worth nothing, but it sure falls short of the mark of what could be done.
In his same newsletter, Scott also did not miss the opportunity to kiss Trump's behind:
His revenge fest is making out country look like the stereotype of a banana republic, or more au courant, a shithole country.
You can disagree:

“I applaud President Trump for working with the Florida delegation to commit to fight for $250 million in federal funding for Everglades restoration projects this year. This funding builds on the $200 million in construction funding for the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration we fought for and secured last year, as well as the $2 billion in state funding invested in restoring the Everglades throughout my time as Governor. Everglades restoration is critically important to the State of Florida and enjoys broad bipartisan support in Congress. I applaud the Administration’s commitment to protecting Florida’s natural treasures for generations to come.”I think this is a needed project (although I would want to investigate further what this project really intends). I love the Everglades. I love California and New York as well. And I respect Feinstein, Harris, Gillibrand and Schumer. But let's face it, they are not favored by the current administration so their states are treated like dirt.

At the risk of being boring, I completely agree. With Trump's control of the justice department. our environmental protection agencies, the military, the state department, and now, perhaps, even some of our intelligence agencies, along with the Republican party and the Senate majority, we are well on the way to an autocracy. Trump is fast becoming a "strong man" and his vengeful ways are endangering us all, world wide.
ReplyDeleteIT BREAKS MY HEART WHAT Y9OU ARE GOING THROUGH IN THE US.
ReplyDeleteI do read your blog, although I don't comment. I don't comment on many of the blogs I read, but I enjoy them. Rick Scott is as despicable as the rest of the Republicans, as far as I am concerned. He'll support Trump as long as the money keeps flowing.
ReplyDeleteAh, well, another good reason to vote for Democrats.
ReplyDeleteSo agree with you. Never was a fan of Rick Scott and was actually surprised that Trump put dollars towards preserving an echo system. He is usually all for destroying one if a dollar can be made. We will see.
ReplyDeleteI wrote a long comment but it disappeared, so I'll just repeat that I am in complete agreement.
ReplyDeleteI'll be honest, I don't understand the fascination with guns. In Canada we have far more stringent gun laws and though there have been mass shootings, they are definitely more infrequent that in the U.S. I'd probably get blasted for this, but having to carry a gun...just in case, suggests there is a lack of trust and a great deal of fear of others.
ReplyDeleteAs for 45...I'm merely a spectator. Though many of his decisions are having an impact world wide.
Finally, if you can't rant here where can you rant? Have at it!
I can't disagree with you about Trump or about gun control. But it's a good thing to spend some money and other resources to protect/restore the Everglades.
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree, even from this side of the border.
ReplyDeleteI’ve given up about meaningful gun control. It’s not going to happen so long as the NRA controls congress and the White House. It’s really frustrating! Can a change at the top make a difference. Gosh! I hope so. And I hope we can make a change this year.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry that I can not disagree with you.
ReplyDeleteRant away.
I do agree. I am amazed that more people are not terrified of this banana republic we have become.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, it would be better to do nothing than an empty something.
