My eyes have been bothering me for a couple of weeks. They itch like crazy, They feel gritty and puffy. They are red. People are wondering if I am depressed because I look like I have been crying all the time.
Since I am in Florida for five month I can't just pop in to see my eye doctor but I did call. I was advised to stop the Alphagan® drops for a week as it is possible to develop an allergic reaction to them over time. If that solves the problem my doctor will perhaps prescribe something else to ease intraocular pressure. If the irritation continues I will have to see an ophthalmologist down here.
And then it is becoming more and more obvious that I am ready for cataract surgery. I put it off until summer because I didn't want to stay in VT through January.
What a bother!

Living in two different places does require juggling. I had never thought of all this. Seems all of us are fighting infections.
ReplyDeleteIt seems many of us are developing little "bothers". No fun.
ReplyDeleteNot fun at all. Hoping the discontinuation of the drops will help.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry that you have a problem with your eyes, your most precious gift. I hope it all clears up.
ReplyDeletemy cousin got this from red tide. Still an issue down there? She had to move from FL to SC to get away from all her and her childrens issues from red tide. They moved - no more itchy blurry eyes, or rashes etc. I don't know where you are but could that be an issue ?(she was in st pete)
ReplyDeleteRed tide was out of control in 2018 and one of my friends had to move because of it too. I hadn't even thought of that as a possibility. I have stopped the drops but my eyes are not 100% back to normal so I made an appointment with a FL eye doctor.
DeleteSure hope that is the problem. It sure sounds like an allergic reaction. Being a snow bird does present problems especially regarding health care. I'd ask your neighbors there if they can recommend someone should you need them.
ReplyDeleteI asked neighbors and friends and did online research, for what that might be worth. I have an appointment for the coming week.
DeleteMy cataracts are getting worse. They are fast growing, and driving me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI am so uncomfortable. I'm on a waiting list for surgery, but it's a long list.
Ah, the waiting lists. Not unique to the Canadian system. My cataracts are more bothersome as well. I am constantly cleaning my glasses. I think they are dirty even when they are not. Eye surgery/ophthalmology appointments generally do not seem to have all that long a wait in VT but there other things just seem impossible to get when needed. Best to plan any dermatological issue a year in advance for instance.
ReplyDeleteHave them done early as each eye is done separately and each take about a month to heal and adjust so you see clearly again. As for eye pressure it can be related to low B vitamins and even anti lipid drugs. Sometimes while trying to lower cholesterol we do more harm than we realize. It comes down to self figuring out what meds you can do without and it seems the cholesterol one is no longer thought to decrease risk of heart and stroke issues. Docs still pedal the drug though. It is the most prescribed drug,,, of course we all must figure out what is best for us.as you know my eyes are at the level of blind now but I still try and am glad for what ai do see.
