One of the nicest things about being retired for me is that this is no longer a fact of life:
I like to spread out the weekly cleaning tasks over the days. I kind of have a schedule in my head but it's more habit than a strict must-do. On Fridays I try to give a quick brush up through the whole place. It doesn't take long, especially in Florida where everything is blissfully on a single floor. Then I fire up my essential oil diffuser and enjoy the tranquil neatness.
I love my essential oil diffuser but I do not enjoy scents from cleaning products. I also don't enjoy the idea of chemicals on surfaces (including my skin) and in the air.
Does anyone have experience with this product:
I find the concept quite intriguing. Someday I will give it a try no doubt.
When I want my tubs and showers to really shine I find I really cannot beat these magic eraser sponges.
Mr. Clean or ones from the dollar store.
They really do take care of soap scum in very short order. I keep one in my shower at all times.
My tub all shiny.
I hardly ever use it.
Over time those mr clean sponges do a lot of damage to a fiberglass tub like you show here. But if you don't use it much you may not see the damage. We fix a lot of damage from those. :-) Call us....tee hee.
ReplyDeleteI understand spreading out the work all week. I try that and look what happened? Put in laundry at 8am - walked to my desk - had a flood and now 3 floors of reconstruction. So I did it all yesterday. :-)
Oh, no, I didn't realize they did damage!! My tub gets used maybe twice a year at most -- I do shower though. It may take a while before I feel the need to call for your services, but if you want to come for a soak you're welcome anytime.
DeleteI do use a lot of vinegar and water, never thought to add salt. For my bathtub I use Zest body wash when I bathe and it really does rinse really clean. Zero scrubbing. Not sure what it does to my skin but my tub looks great.
ReplyDeleteDavid uses magic eraser on his sink regularly. Now that you mention it, I should try it too.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I have never used my eraser sponge on the tub. It sounds like a great idea. I will pick up a couple next trip to the dollar store - I find the dollar variety works just as well as expensive ones.
ReplyDeleteTake caution from the tub expert above though.
DeleteOh darn! I was about to say I'd like to try that on our fiberglass tub, but I see now that might not be a good idea. Shucks!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what Margaret said above. If your tub is fiberglass as many are, does this eventually wear the surface and encourage even more scum to attach?
ReplyDeleteWe (Tom and I share the work) do our housecleaning and laundry all on Monday so we can forget about it the rest of the week. I'm not fond of Mondays, but at least it all gets done.
ReplyDeleteHaving someone share the load is a good thing. For a couple of years when I was taking care of my mother with her increasing dementia and still working full time we hired a housecleaner to come in twice a month. It was such a relief to walk into a house that was all clean and fresh smelling.
DeleteI've given up a schedule. You never know when a huge storm with descend!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that need for snow shoveling wrecks any kind of schedule.
DeleteI'm loving retirement too as my weekends are generally my down time. I don't have a strict routine either, but get the regular chores done each week. Heavy duty cleaning gets done more frequently too as I have the time for it.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware that Mr. Clean sponges do damage to tubs. Like you, I clean mine with them all the time. Yikes!
Live and learn. I have to believe Margaret knows her stuff.
