I have joined a 50+ keeping active group through Meet-Up and have been participating in some area hiking. On Sunday morning, 14 of us went around Colchester Pond.
Views of the pond were a good reason to stop for a moment or two:
I took this picture of the sun dappled trail behind me but I somehow did not think to capture the really steep sections. Maybe I was too busy watching my footsteps or trying to catch my breath
Heading back to the parking lot, the last leg of the hike:
There was a wide path through this meadow. It was a warm day, but I was not going to roll up sleeves or wear shorts (long pants tucked into socks instead) because this just screams tick habitat to me.
I am enjoying getting back into the woods even with my fears about ticks. Having a group with a leader planning these excursions is kind of nice as well.
I found this tick kit article useful but it doesn't give me a false sense of security.
I have had a human and a dog in my house get Lyme disease. Nothing to laugh at. What you are doing may seem crazy to some but it's normal to me. Good for you. This s-t isn't fun and its a horrible disease.
ReplyDeleteYour 55+ group sounds fabulous!
That's a great way to get out with other folks while getting a bit of exercise. We have a similar group here but I haven't joined.
ReplyDeleteTicks remind me of sharks. Hike or swim but be aware of potential danger.
ReplyDeleteThey say walking is the best exercise, so good for you. Don't forget the DEET.
ReplyDeleteTicks have made you miserable so I am surprised you went out into their territory but glad you are not letting them ruin the outdoors for you. Keep tucked in and you should be all right.
ReplyDeleteThat looked like a big "pond". How far around is it?
ReplyDeleteSo far ticks are not a problem here, but I do prefer wide, cleared pathways.
Oh, I Googled and answered my own question - a three mile loop. Just right!
ReplyDeleteSo many new tick diseases. Suh a tragedy that keeps us away from our lovely woods.
ReplyDeleteI forget to worry about Ticks but I have't been in nature that much lately. Once bitten .. as they say .. a lasting lesson.
