I had to go to Boston for a medical follow-up. Turns out I could have totally skipped it since all it accomplished is that "we will see" in September. I was not planning on another trip.
I once read that the streets of Boston were designed by a civil engineer (he was Italian in the story I read, but let's not perpetuate ethnic stereotypes) who was pondering a city layout as he enjoyed his dinner and a glass of chianti. He was so engrossed in thinking about this project that he jumped up to spread his drafting papers on the table and managed to knock the plate of spaghetti onto the floor. As he looked down on the mess, a tangled sprawl of pasta -- voila! an inspiration was born!
And if you have ever tried to navigate the streets of Boston, you could actually credit this as a true story.

I have no affiliation with the site, but other cities are available as well. It's really pretty cool.

Boston is a bear to drive in. Well, Tom drives, but navigation is also very hard and that's my job.
ReplyDeleteHah hah, great story, and who knows, it may even be true!
ReplyDeleteLove the story! Having been to Boston only once I do agree. I'm pretty I went in circles while wandering the Freedom trail.
ReplyDeleteWashington, DC has some competition in its inability to get from point A to point B. I hate, hate, hate wasted Doctor's appointments.
ReplyDeleteDavid and I visited Boston for 3 days in 1987 to see my in-laws. Pleasant, but too quiet for me. I like New York City better.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. Doubtful but funny. I am not a big fan of the city of Boston for lots of reasons none of it is their roads. But the roads were a tangled mess. Last time I was there the Big Dig was still going on and I am certain it's been done now for years.
ReplyDeleteI've been a tourist in Boston but never tried to drive there. I don't usually drive in new to me cities but then I live in such a large place that is spread out so far that I'm sure we have one of every kind of traffic jam here. But if you think about, street planning is really very interesting.
