Busy, Busy

It has been a busy week for me. The poetry group I belong to met on Monday.

Tuesday morning I participated in a two hour origami  session. We were folding orange cranes that will be sent to an artist who is going to do an art installation using 37, 000 orange cranes as part of a gun safety awareness effort. Later I hosted the neighborhood book club. We actually did discuss the book (Zorro by Isabel Allende) and a whole lot of other things as well.

On Wednesday I went to Chalice Circle, a small discussion group sponsored by my church of choice. That evening I went to meditation and afterwards to a small gathering of neighbors that lasted well into the night as we sat outside and watched the super moon rising.

Thursday I went to the large Farmers' Market in Englewood and picked up some gorgeous strawberries among other things. Then it was my annual wellness visit to my doctor. I am well. She told me I was boring, but that's a good thing. I was dragging a bit for line dancing that evening and my brain-feet communication loop was experiencing unusual amounts of static.

Friday was a presentation by a woman who works with the LBGT community in NYC around access to medical care. The presenter was staying with her aunt who invited a group to her home for wine and cheese and delightful conversation afterwards. That's two late nights in one week.

Saturday was spent doing yard work -- spreading compost to feed the plants and spreading mulch to discourage weeds. I barely made a dent in what needs doing but I was inspired by my trip to the open house at the ECHO farm the previous Saturday. Well, I may not exactly be feeding the world -- or even myself except for my herbs -- but my plants do bring me joy. And I support local agriculture by shopping at the farmers' markets.

Next week's calendar is not so full. I do have an appointment for getting taxes done on Monday, not something I look forward to but something that does need doing. I am pretty certain I will not being reaping the benefits of the ballyhooed tax cut. And in all honesty it should be the occasion of gratitude. I am not poor enough so that either I don't have to pay taxes or I have to suffering greatly in order to pay. Nor am I wealthy enough so that I don't have to pay, and for the sake of my soul I consider that a good thing.

I do have something to look forward to in the coming week though. My friend  (and new main squeeze) Don will be arriving on Saturday for a two week vacation and serious discussions about our future. So that's interesting.

And don't complain about my leaving you hanging. When I know more, I will let you know.

  3. The last thing you want to have is an interesting case for the doctors. So as you say, boring is good. Our taxes are at the accountant's office right now, but we've already been told that we are among the select group of people who will pay more taxes as a married couple than we did as singles. Oh well ...
