Three trick or treaters came to my door last night. That is the most little beggars I have seen at my door since 1992.
Three years ago neighbors who moved away by the next Halloween brought their toddler. Then no one until this year.
The first time the doorbell rang a handsome young police officer was standing there. He was little and his parents had to prompt him to say "trick or treat" and "thank-you." A bit later two youngsters, probably six and seven years old, tapped on the door. I greeted them with a "Happy Halloween" and dropped candy into their little buckets. They immediately said "thank-you" and then the little boy said
"Have a wonderful rest of your evening."
Politeness. What a very amazing thing.

It was raining in Houston but we had a few in-between showers. I only had one large bag of candy. When we got to the last four pieces, I turned off the light and had a party in my room.
ReplyDeleteWe knew we would have none, since we live on a hill and at the end of a long driveway. For the first time ever I did not light a jack-o-lantern. We turned off the outside lights and had no candy. Sigh. We left our carved pumpkins with the grands.
ReplyDeleteWe've got way too much candy left over, again. But this is our last year of Halloween here, so we'll see what our new neighborhood in Arizona is like next year. Hope springs eternal, because Halloween is a big deal to the two of us. :)
ReplyDeleteLove what I am hearing from bloggers about the politeness of the kids. Gives one hope. I am too rural and it rained the entire day so there were none here.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I had 35 trick or treaters varying in age from about 3 to 12 or 13. I found it was actually the older children who were most polite, the younger ones who were with their parents were not prompted to say thank you. The last two little guys at the door got the rest of the candy. That works for me, no temptations!

isn't it great when it happens though?
ReplyDeleteOh, those kids are being raised properly.
ReplyDeleteI miss the holidays. I have to go out to events to see the decorations. No little kiddies here.
ReplyDeleteI ran out of candy but did not have one trick or treater. How do you explain that? LOL
