Summer Scent

The temperature on my car dash actually registered at 100 degrees for a few seconds today.  It was a good day for a grocery shopping trip since the store is air conditioned all the time.

It was also a good time to harvest a bunch of basil that was getting ready to bolt and stay inside making pesto. I used sunflower seeds instead of pine nuts, which I love.  I just did not have the time to go to the bank and take out a loan to purchase pine nuts.  My place smells like basil.  I find it quite pleasant.  Essential oil of basil is supposed to have a calming effect.

Basil is also supposed to be good for the common cold.  I am not sure if I have a cold or if I am experiencing irritation from the ridiculous amount of  mold that has appeared on all the tree trunks around here.  I am hoping sniffing the smell of basil will help whatever it is.

    I like basil, too. Thai people are famous for their cuisine containing fresh basil.

    Our basil is a long way from harvest, but when it is I will make pesto too. I use walnuts instead of pine nuts.

    I’ve had a cold this week, wish I’d known about basil, and had some. I can never keep up with you. In Florida I can imagine mold on trees, not so much in Vermont.

    Can you get a cold when it's 100 degrees outside? Maybe it's an allergy.

    oof...mold would do me in, too. It's a suspect, I believe, in why I'm allergic to most antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon!

    It does sound more allergy than cold, anyway that would be better. Summer colds are the worst.

    Happy 4th Olga! I love basil but can't grow it outside here in Breckenridge. The nights remain too cold for it. Do you know that all pine nuts are imported from China? I like them on salads but rarely buy them.

Walking

 I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. Wedding

 Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!
