Spa Day

I tried something new at the yoga studio -- spa yoga.  This was a slow paced series of poses in a candle lit room with sprays of essential oils, some hands on assists and a bit of massage.

Teacher knew her stuff, but I would have enjoyed this a whole lot more if she didn't have one of those breathy little voices that trails off before the completion of a sentence.  Young women seem quite fond of that style of speaking.  At times I wanted to scream, "You're a yoga teacher.  Use your breath to support your speech!"  She did work a know out of my neck though so I set aside the irritation in appreciation for that.

And then I went with my friend Ginnie to her nail spa and we both had a mani-pedi.  I do not do this on a regular basis.  In fact the young lady who did my nails kind of yelled at me for cutting my toenails ". . .  too short and too crooked. I can't shape them the way I want. Don't do that again!"  I declined any polish, which also elicited a bit of an eye roll.  I like getting the cuticles trimmed and the  raggedness filed out of my nails once in a while.  I don't like the feel of polish and no one is going to convince me that I can't actually feel it because I can!

I left with nails on toes and fingers that matched, which seemed to be the big theme today.  My nails look really clean.  And the massage chair made my back nice and relaxed.  I'm good.

none of these, thanks

  1. I think if this would have included a glass or two of wine while getting my pedi this would be my perfect day. The spa yoga sounds wonderful Olga. But yes, they do that breathy thing. My yoga instructor as well. And so soft that is was difficult for me to hear. Then I moved up front thinking I would be able to hear better, but she moves around so it didn't matter. It just made me laugh.
Just as I read the line "I don't like the feel of polish" I thought you can't feel polish. Which of course the next line told me not to think that. I find that very interesting. Does it feel heavy? Or just claustrophobic? Fascinating....and inquiring minds want to know

    1. Perhaps it is just a psychological feeling, but It feels like something touching my finger tips to me. And while I do like the looks of nicely polished nails on other people, I can't stand the look of my own hands with polish on the nails.

  2. I can't feel polish, as you do, but I wear polish for a week, then no polish for a few days which seems to keep my nails healthy.

  3. Wow, that nail artist was rude. I just have pedicures, not mani because I use my hands too much in the kitchen and garden.

    1. A little rude since the customer is "always right." But she made me laugh.

  4. I really don’t like being touched so that kind of day would not appeal to me. I can’t. Imagine having a massage. Sounds like it did wonders for you and that’s what outs.

    1. I don't like being touched if I don't expect or want it, but a good massage is one of my great pleasures in life.

  5. Kinda' like that Linda above me, I don't do massages, at least not so far, and I have never had a manicure or a pedicure, except at the Podiatrist office where I have my ingrown fungal toenails trimmed painfully.
No polish for me either. I want my nails to breathe, and I do not show off my ugly feet.

  6. A nice mani pedi day is wonderful if you are sharing it with someone. A daughter, friend, granddaughter. Other than that, I do my own trimming and filing. Not worth the money without a reason.

    1. I agree. I go to many yoga classes, but the spa thing is a rare treat.

  7. I agree ... massage good; mumbling bad.

  8. A little pampering is always nice. The young woman who did your mani-pedi needs a few lessons in customer service. The customer is always right!

  9. Sounds like you really enjoyed the pampering. I would love a day like that--especially the massage part.

  10. Glad you could gain some enjoyment from all that care. More importantly, the knot release in your neck would be desirable. Have never been much of a fan of nail polish anywhere for me, though did sometimes use clear in the past — tolerated a manicure several times as a manicurist-in-training’s model/victim. Even allowed application of false nails that were clearly not my cup-of-tea. To each her own. Years past I benefited from osteopathic treatment, but haven’t pursued massage per se.

Just catching up here, as have been taking a break from blogging.

  11. What a nice day of pampering. And I thought I was the only one who doesn't like nail polish!
    Here visiting from Margaret's. Nice!

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

New Furniture

We went shopping for a new couch. I liked this one, the first store we went to. Of course it would be an impulse to buy the first one so we trekked around to other stores -- something we liked more, a better deal? No surprise that we ended up going back to that first store the next day and purchasing that couch for our living room. Also a matching love seat for the den where we watch TV. Because I had replaced my old love seat with two recliners. We couldn't keep three households worth of furniture after all. Well, my recliner was not big enough to accommodate both Levi and me. Poor boy had to watch TV from his bed on the floor. There! This is much better! Spoiled much? The little tail on the floor belongs to his toy squirrel, Buddy. It's like having a toddler with the need to be picking up toys or risk tripping over them. But his very favorite play thing is that bathmat that can be found anywhere but the bathroom floor.

Walking

I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. However, we may be walking along happily enough -- me listening to the birds or trying to identify wildflowers and other plants while L...
