IMHO

I have no need for a wedding cake at the present time.  If I did though, I know exactly where I would not go to order it.

I think maybe there should be a label law for business and service providers.  Something along the lines of:
This business serves only those
who share in the
religious
and/or
political
beliefs
of the owner.

That would be most helpful.  You believe what you want to believe and I will shop elsewhere in support of diversity and tolerance.  Simple enough?

I go back to the 1% patches worn by some members of outlaw biker clubs.  They indicate the wearer is part of the one percent of bikers who give all other motorcyclists a bad name.  You wear a badge that let's everyone else know you are a proud asshole (no offense) -- well, I think that is helpful.  Okay, I'll stay away from you.

So a baker has the right to his convictions, but a football player who kneels for the Star Spangled Banner is a pariah.  After all,  honoring the symbol of our freedoms is far more important than the freedoms themselves.

The tweeter in chief has the absolute right to pardon himself although he doesn't have to pardon himself because he has done nothing wrong.  Do you think if I ask nicely he will fix my last parking ticket?

***

Miss America pageants will no longer feature swim suit "competition." Yawn.

***

Have you apologized to Monica, Bill?  The simple answer would have been "No."

I may be crazy, but I didn't drive myself.  The news is definitely behind the wheel here.

  1. Olga what next people of color? This angered me more than you can even imagine! I agree with you about Bill, what a dufus. Just say no. I personally don't feel it was the same. She flirted with him, she knew what she was doing. Yes she was only in her 20's but she wasn't being harassed for her job, she was not raped. She was a willing participant and from reading things she has written, she went after him strongly. I am not sure that is the same. But Bill did a terrible job in that interview. Bill is nuts if he didn't think this would be a topic interview in this environment.
I am sitting on a post right now that is making me boil. I am hoping I will cool down and revisit and/or not post it. I am not certain yet. I try to stay away from the bullshit known as the tweeter in office but it gets more and more difficult doesn't it?

  2. I don't like the why, but I do believe the baker has the right to refuse service. If I had a bakery and Trump wanted something - I want the right to refuse him.

    1. Point taken. That baker believes marriage is a religious event and the cake a symbol thereof, so be it. I reserve the right to get my cake elsewhere.

  3. I am so confused. Right wing conservative Christians told me Bill Clinton should burn in Hell. The same people are now telling me I should look to Donald Trump as an example of a fine Christian. My moral values remain the same. When did their’s change?

  4. That Supreme Court ruling was very narrow and not exactly as we may interpret it. It is close to prejudicial, but not right on. We are in very, very dark times, but my extremely liberal Danish friend thinks I am too angry?

  5. I'm no right wing conservative Christian, and I'm pretty sure that Jesus would have made the damn cake.

  6. You bring up the complexities of life. Me? I don't give a damn.

  7. I dare you to walk into a kosher deli and order a glass of milk to go along with your roast beef sandwich. or better yet, go into a Islamic Muslim restaurant and order friggin' pork!
    You fucking imbecile.
This whole thing with the cake is about bashing Christians.
Ain't gonna happen anymore. Christians are fighting back and its about time! They are being slaughtered all over the world and I ain't seen or heard you say one darn thing about it.
May you fucking rot in hell!

  8. Well if its any consolation Olga, I will be rotting in hell too. Old one way ticket from years ago, that I made a point to do nothing about.

    1. I think we are good. I don't believe in an eternal Hell. I am sorry for those who find life on earth to be hell, but their souls will work it out eventually.

  9. Well, you’ve summed up those issues and needed responses pretty succinctly.

  10. If I understand the court decision, the judges decided not on the basis of religion but artistic freedom. Ultimately I think they took the easy way out.

Some of rhetoric that is being spewed is nauseating, but even more than that frightening. One of our largest provinces just elected a Trump lite! Will there be a civil war, or another world war 3? Some days I wonder.

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

New Furniture

We went shopping for a new couch. I liked this one, the first store we went to. Of course it would be an impulse to buy the first one so we trekked around to other stores -- something we liked more, a better deal? No surprise that we ended up going back to that first store the next day and purchasing that couch for our living room. Also a matching love seat for the den where we watch TV. Because I had replaced my old love seat with two recliners. We couldn't keep three households worth of furniture after all. Well, my recliner was not big enough to accommodate both Levi and me. Poor boy had to watch TV from his bed on the floor. There! This is much better! Spoiled much? The little tail on the floor belongs to his toy squirrel, Buddy. It's like having a toddler with the need to be picking up toys or risk tripping over them. But his very favorite play thing is that bathmat that can be found anywhere but the bathroom floor.

Walking

I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. However, we may be walking along happily enough -- me listening to the birds or trying to identify wildflowers and other plants while L...
