Do you watch This is Us, the NBC television story about the Pearson family? It is a can't miss for me.
I suspect it is heavily sponsored by the Kimberly-Clark Corporation because the show surely is responsible for a huge spike in sales of its Kleenex brand tissues.
I really think I haven't been so emotionally drawn in by a television show since ThirtySomething, 1987 to 1991 ABC story of friends struggling with baby boomer angst. Remember when actor Peter Horton's character dies unexpectedly in a bike accident? My heart stopped. I remember going out to dinner a few days afterwards and someone asked me how I was and all I could say was, "Gary died." A man standing at the salad bar right near us moaned, "What?" and dropped the salad tongs.
Yeah, I think Kimberly-Clark had something to do with that one as well.

Hmm, maybe if I need a good cry I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteKorean soap operas tend to be tear jerkers.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen This is Us, but I do remember ThirtySomething. ThirtySomething was a wonderful show. None of the actors seemed to make it big in another show but I remember each of them as if they were my best friend from long ago.
ReplyDeleteI think Olga you are on to something with this Kimberly Clark comment. We too LOVE the show. This Tuesday we did not see it. But we watched it this morning before work. My husband turned to me and said, "A good cleaning of my tear ducts to start my day is probably good for me" I laughed as I wiped my eyes too.
ReplyDeleteI must say that if Deja's mom wants her to stay there she should tell Deja, not just walk out on her. That had me talking back to my TV this morning.
I too was horrified and depressed after Gary died on 30Something. Oh how I loved that show. Those were the days that you had to watch it when it came on because there was no DVR and watching it later. I didn't even have a VCR at that time.
Barbara - 3 did go on. Ken Olin, Peter Horton and Timothy Busfield are big directors now. Timothy was also on West Wing. They just weren't in front of the camera.
ReplyDeleteI too watch "This is Us". Although I am not a big crier by nature, this show gets me every time. And in unexpected ways. It's funny that you made the tie in to tissues because my husband teases me when it comes on. He always says "do you have your tissues? your show is coming on". And he's right, I end up needing them.
ReplyDeleteI have heard good things about this show, but have never watched it yet. The thought of it making me cry stops me every time.
ReplyDeleteWe watch This Is Us also, and I do love the characters, but mostly I just sigh, and not cry.
ReplyDeleteWe started watching This Is Us; but then we started traveling and doing other things and forgot about it. Got to get back to it b/c I agree, great show.
ReplyDeleteI got so far behind I am going to have to wait and binge watch it on Netflix.
