Bleep Alert

Stop the silence to stop the violence.

Our country supports a culture of venerating guns and gun ownership.  Our politicians support a culture of get re-elected at any cost.

It's too soon to talk about once again.  Offer your thoughts and prayers.  BULLSH*T!

I applaud the Florida students who want to march on Washington.  I support them in heart, mind, body and pocketbook.  And I will support them with my vote.

Politicians, take note:

You may think a student body protest doesn't matter.  After all, they cannot vote.  Well, you better wake up and realize that concerned parents and concerned grandparents and concerned people of conscience do vote.

There is a way to stop this senseless shooting.  Get your heads out of your a$$e$ and do the right thing for the greater good of this country and its future . . . before that future is too bleak to contemplate.

  1. I wish we could have a popular vote on the gun issue even if it didn't count. I'd like the NRA and Congress just how people feel. If I'm in the minority, I'd like to know. I'd also like to have detailed information on how Australia proceeded on their challenge. I'm going to research that in the coming days.

  2. I'm right there with you. You may not mav seen my last post, but I have spent much of the weekend countering the gun worshipers' old, tired arguments. "It's a mental health issue, not a gun issue." On Facebook, "If we outlaw guns, only criminals will have guns." "Cars kill people too. Should we ban cars?" "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." What crap!
I'm so tired of this mindset. I truly hope that student voices will cause a breakthrough. Nothing else has so far. I'll be backing them too.

  3. I don't like guns. Time for a Gun Regulation Post re-run.

  4. My brother collected guns for sport. He spent 10 years in prison for terroristic threatening. He died 6 months after being released from prison. People who own a gun are bound to use it. Wish it were harder to obtain one.

  5. When I heard Rubio say "our thoughts and prayers" I wanted to punch him in the face and I have never hit a soul in my life. That jackass got over 3million from the NRA. He doesn't give a hoot. I can only hope Karma gets him and quickly. I hope to live to see it.
I am sick of the mental issue comment as well. You don't think there are no mental issues in Canada? Australia? UK? You don't see this happen there because they can't get guns. Simple really. This country is going to hell in a hand basket as my Grandmother would say.

Congress needs to lose the metal detectors. Their seats are made of kevlar for protection. Got a tour last fall and we were shown this. Gee think they assume something may happen? But hell, let the kids die.
    Or this angers me so.

  6. Amen Olga and politicians beware. Those high school seniors who are quite vocal will be voting next year in Florida as 18 is the legal age. Go get'em kids.

  7. Is it not ironic that these high school kids make better sense than our elected leaders? I hope they kick ass!

  8. I agree, but you're wrong about one thing. Our country does NOT support a culture of venerating guns and gun ownership. Only a small, well-organized minority does. But a small well-organized minority gets their own way in a democracy, unless everyone else raises a big stink about it. So good for you for raising a big stink!

  9. It's been awful watching from this side of the border. There are those adamant about having guns.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
