Walking

Brisk walking and yoga are my exercises of choice.  I like to take a longer walk on Sunday afternoons because they are not as busy.  This Sunday was so pleasant I ended up walking six miles.

I live in a small park.  If you walk the perimeter, you have gone (to be extremely generous) a half mile.  Walking the same loop eight times gets boring and also puts me at risk of having some resident think I am some kind of stalker.  So I tend to walk in the larger community of Venice.

This is the entry way to the park where I live, about a quarter mile until I reach other neighborhoods.

I can't tell you how many times someone has stopped in a car, rolled down the window and in a concerned voice asked if I needed a ride.

I cross the highway and get to the Circus Bridge.  This is where there is someone waiting to operate the draw bridge but there were only small boats out today it seemed.

I get to the Venetian Waterway Park along the Intracoastal and there are walkers, runners, and bicyclists.  There are boats going by and the boaters always wave to those of us poor folk on land.  This section is very close to the Venice airport and there are always lots of small aircraft traffic on weekends.  It may not look busy here, but it is really.

I walked to Shamrock Park and stopped to visit their small display garden

Bromeliad and my foot

These are labeled "Golden" something but they look purple to me

The garden is a very much a work in process.

I stopped at this small park on the way home.  I thought I might see an alligator, but I only spied a couple of anhingas. They are also called snake birds because they really do look like snakes when they are in the water.

  1. I can do without alligators. Lol. Lovely area in Florida. You are indeed blessed.

  2. I had people keep offering me a lift also till I started carrying a hiking stick. Then they knew I was there by choice. It is also helpful if a nasty dog threatens.

  3. THat hiking stick is a good idea.

My area is not as nice, I do my walking at the gym.
Or the golf course in the summer.

  4. DH and I walked outside today too. It is in the 50's and sunny... although the wind is a little chilly. We usually walk in the mall, but with the flu so prevalent, thought we'd skip the crowded places. Your walk sounds nice... and I would have liked to see an alligator or two.

  5. I slightly know that area. It is hard to get around if you do not live there. That walk sounds perfect and you should just keep it up!

  6. Walking is my exercise of choice also, and I walk in our neighborhood, usually. No one has ever offered me a ride! But then I have been walking around here for so long, I'm sure people just say "there she goes again".
Your walk looks interesting, and flat!

  7. Every morning when the weather is nice I think I will walk. It doesn't happen. Now I simply must start exercising properly for the sake of my heart. Maybe next week...

  8. Looks like a wonderful stroll in the SPRING. I've been to Florida in the summer. No Way.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
