My friends and neighbors, Ken and Annamarie, are very social and hospitable types. They enjoy going out and they enjoy throwing parties and they are fun people to be around.
I am much less of a party person. I like to not invite more people than I can comfortably seat around my table and six is pushing it. I find it nearly painful to mingle at parties and like to find myself a nice almost out of the way spot to sit until most of the crowd has left.
Perhaps their biggest party of the year is the Halloween party they throw. I arrived on time and enjoyed myself starting around 10 when it was down to the close friends.
There were superheroes, doctors, nurses, a priest and a nun, kittens, witches, skeletons, sexy French maid, hippies, and Ozzie Osborne. I went as a snowflake.

Lots of people thought it was a cute reference to my Vermont home. One astute gentleman made the political connection. Probably just as well. Parties are not the place for political discourse.
I confess I had not heard the term. I had to look it up. With all the negative politics of the past and present I have had to hide my head to keep it from exploding. I try not to read about the tweets and I definitely don't watch the news. World news only. Glad to be in the know now.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer small gatherings to large parties. I would have thought of the political implications of a snowflake costume, but I would keep it to myself for the reason you say.
ReplyDeleteI had just learned the term in the political sense so it was my first thought. A little sad that now even the most unique of nature's masterpieces have other meanings. Think you made a cute snowflake of the best kind.
ReplyDeleteI love your snowflake idea and I would have laughed out loud. but then you might not have wanted me to do that. I do understand not wanting to be the center of attention. I don't do well at large parties either, and I really don't like small talk. Give me a conversation with edge.
ReplyDeleteI never was good at party small talk. But I love your snowflake costume - and after googling now know the term's origins and past meanings. Who knew!? Not me!
ReplyDeleteThat is funny. Even winter is not political. Like you I am good at making talk with people I do not know and will probably meet once a year.
ReplyDeleteoh heavens making it political. Well hope you had a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteWell, Trump will spend a day in Hawaii starting this Friday. Hope he has a nice time in paradise.

ReplyDeleteSnowflakes predominant meaning will always remain the kind that fall from the sky for me as they are so unique, but I can enjoy the wordplay.
ReplyDeleteYou are brave to head out to a pary since you find it a challenge. I think you made a very unique costume choice.
ReplyDeleteObvious I am not political. Had no idea snowflake meant something other than snowflake. Think I won't look it up. You look cute.
