Why do they even make these things?

In my travels around the Venice, Florida area I have seen a couple of strange and curious things.

A Cadillac pickup truck.

I am sure it's expensive.  I am sure it is posh to sit inside it.  But why? Why does it even exist? Aren't pickups working vehicles?  How practical does this look?  What kind of person ever feels the need for something like this?

(If you have one enlighten me, but I think it is just plain wrong.)

And this:

An SUV by Jaguar!!

Again, certainly very expensive and very posh, but it kind of looks like every other SUV on the road.

If I ever get to own a Jaguar, I for sure want it to be a whole lot sexier looking than this.  If I ever even ever in my life get to just sit in one, I would want it to look a whole lot sexier than this.

(If you have one enlighten me, but I think it is just plain wrong.)

  1. I wish I could enlighten you. I think the same thing. We have an SUV to haul our dog and items to the lake. I don't need a Jaguar for that. Besides if I had one I'd never want to get all the dog hair and get it wet from all the things we haul to the lake. Silly and pretentious to me. My sister had a big truck and she has a fit when people moved things being hauled around because it could scratch the back. So why get this fancy truck then? Isn't the point to put things back there? So I am scratching my head along side you Olga.

  2. Reminds me of the 2 Jaguars that my friends owned. He had a black Jag and she had a white Jag. The 2 cars looked sporty.

  3. I've got nothing, I am as in the dark as you. There should be cars for luxury, cars for speed and sport, and cars for utility, brands should stick to what they do best.

  4. Years ago I read an article about a new model of the civilian version of the Humvee. There was a telling quote in the article that I put in my quote file for future edification:

The H1 (Humvee) will be marketed to "RUGGED INDIVIDUALISTS". These are people who are irreverent and daring and want to be seen that way by other people, Mr. DiGiovanni said. "The rugged individualists are people WHO REALLY SEEK PEER APPROVAL...."

Emphasis mine. So I would imagine that such people would also be attracted to a Cadillac pickup truck a Jaguar SUV. Is it just me or is there something ironic about a rugged individualist seeking peer approval?

  6. I can't chose between people who want to be looked at and people who want something no one else has. Certainly not many people have either of the above and, as we have all agreed, why would you want to.

  7. I had a boyfriend my senior year in high school who drove a gorgeous black Jag. I'm pretty sure I dated him for the car!

  8. Funny post! I don't get it either, but some people have money to burn, I hear, and practicality is not a priority? Or even common sense?

  9. I have a new truck but it is a GMC. It is very posh inside but probably nothing like a Cadillac or a Jaguar made vehicle. Wonder if Lexus and BMW make trucks? I live on a farm so I need a truck. The only reason someone might need a posh truck is to carry antiques home. LOL

  10. Once upon a time (pre-children) we owned an XKE Jag in butter yellow. We had to sell it when I became pregnant with the twins. I couldn't fit in it anymore. (So, some Jags aren't even big enough to haul pregnant women.)

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

Life Goes On

There is nothing like a visit from the grand children to remind one that life goes on.  I spent Friday night at my daughter's and then brought the kids back home with me.  I did not get to see so much of them this past summer and it was a birthday gift to my daughter (who just turned 40!) to have a couple of days to herself. She probably spent them in her son's room playing Lego StarWars.  Dane tried to teach me how to play this video game--a hopeless task if ever there was one.  "Concentrate, Grandma!  You have to concentrate!"  I do have a hard time with sustained concentration lately, but in this case I had no clue what it was that needed concentration.  He finally took the controls away from me (thank-you!). It's amazing how long he can amuse himself at my house being out side on a scooter or helping me in the yard, especially if it involves a hose.  Inside, they both sit and draw or craft for hours.  Just before bed, Dane did say, "N...

Eggplant

Mike and I considered ourselves soul mates, but we definitely were not culinary mates.  Mike liked what he liked and disliked what he disliked and he never changed his mind about things like that.  He did not eat mayonnaise.  He did not eat tomato sauce.  He did not eat cooked vegetables except for corn, peas and green beans.  He did not eat onions cooked or otherwise.  He did not eat casseroles ever since they were a combination of things he didn't eat anyway. I did not like mushrooms as a kid and eggplant just made me gag, but my tastes changed,  Foods I found disgusting as a child are now among my favorites--mushrooms, eggplant, avocados, asparagus, eggs, spinach, brussel sprouts, herbs and spices. I will admit that I never developed a taste for liver (nor do I want to). I made this Moussakka a while ago and ate it every day for a week.  I froze half of it but ended up thawing it out right away. It consists of sliced eggplant layered...
