More Something

It seems certain that Irma will hit Florida and travel up the center of the state.  Florida is a peninsula.  The damage is likely to affect both coasts.

My roof is not fixed yet.  It's not going to be fixed before the winds and rains come.  I can only be grateful I am not there and hope for the best.

I was seeing the traffic jamb as people were evacuating.  There are always those who refuse to evacuate.  I am thinking about those who are on island countries.  They can't just jump in cars and leave.  Scary stuff.

  1. I have a sister dealing with fires just 2 miles away. I have a lot of family in Florida, mostly St Pete area and 1 family evacuated already with all their loved ones and importantly belongings. they have arrived in Atlanta where they know they will have severe rain but with their family. I have a niece who just moved to Lake Worth who called me last night crying. She is so scared and her hubby and his family all are in Boca and they tell her it will be fine to calm down they've been through this before. All I can say is that shoveling snow never looked so good. And I can hear Al Gore saying, I told you so, I told you so! I hope your home fares well.

  5. It's scary to think how many people are going to be affected and how many already are. And then there is the other two to worry about.
The world is crazy right now. Glad your safe

  6. I'm just listening to how all people are being evacuated off Barbuda onto Antigua because Hurricane Jose is due to hit Barbuda tomorrow. That country is already destroyed.
Please keep us posted about the fate of your Florida house.

  7. It is truly frightening. At least in North America we have access to the supplies to repair the damage (with the exception of human lives). Those small islands in the Caribbean will be suffering for many years to come. If this doesn't open the eyes of those who do not believe in climate change, I don't know what will.
Definitely your home is Florida is spared.

  9. My daughter survived the tragedy that was the category 5 Hurricane Ivan on Grand Cayman. She escaped a day ahead (because her mother made her) but she went back three days later. There was no running wter for weeks, and the island was completely flattened. a photograper took pictures before and after and they are truly frightening. In an island there is no wa to go and there are often not enough planes. I am praying today for everyone as I see what is happeneng on the in the news this sunday.

  10. I have driven that route from Tampa to Texas many times. It is a long drive without being cram packed with evacuees. I hope your condo comes through it without too much damage but glad you were not there to know.

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

Walking

I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. However, we may be walking along happily enough -- me listening to the birds or trying to identify wildflowers and other plants while L...

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!
