The moose population in Vermont is being decimated. The reason -- my nightmare: the tick. Well, lots of blood sucking ticks actually. Moose have been found with tens of thousands of ticks on them.
Tens of thousands!
How icky:
I had a couple of my friends over for lunch today, The brought me this:
I am hoping I never have to use it, but I fear that will not be the case.

Just the other day I was wondering how the deer and other animals survive with all the ticks, no I am sad to find out that many are not.
ReplyDeleteOk, those pics of ticks on moose are creeping me out. I had no idea!
ReplyDeleteOh yuck! There are ticks on my brother's farm, thankfully I've never been bitten but they used to bother the dogs something fierce. But nothing near what the moose are suffering.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great visit with your friend. Lovely photos!
Only two tick bites this year for me and half a dozen for hubby. We are careful to remove as soon as we find them and rub the area vigorously with alcohol. Thus far we are safe. Hubby has been on antibiotics in summers pass as a precaution when an odd bite looks infected. Wonder what can be done for the Moose?
ReplyDeleteOh those poor moose. I actually saw a bird this year with a swollen tick on its eyelid. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteYou should move permanently to Florida.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the moose being so infested. I recall picking engourged ticks from our dog when I was young and having to check our bodies for them if we were out in the woods. Came home from a morning of picking wild blackberries to find multitudes of tiny seed ticks climbing up my legs. No talk of Lyme disease then. Never heard of a tick remover, as we just removed them with our fingers with various techniques as needed.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have them in southern California if Florida doesn't work out!
ReplyDeleteThat poor moose. We kill mosquiroes with chemicals but have no way to get rid of ticks? What imbalance have we created? What tick eating critters did we loose? Hope you are all better now.
