Sure, sometimes a little rain is a welcome thing but I'm thinking a lot of people are not singing about the rain that Harvey dumped.
I understand that parts of Florida are getting some residual rain from those stubborn bands swirling near the Gulf of Mexico. So I have to confess that my heart did do a flipping kind of dropping kind of bounce when the phone rang and I recognized the name on caller ID. It was the woman who does a walk through my Florida place on a regular basis. She sent me a picture of a water stain on the ceiling in the laundry. It must have been from the weekend.
So I probably didn't sound to happy when I said hello, but I am so glad I have someone who can keep an eye on things for me. She recommended a roofing company. I called and they inspected and will do the job soon. It will be a big expense. Florida weather is not kind to manmade structures. It is windy, the sun beats done (it's 91 degrees there today, "feels like 106") and then it rains. What can I do but have a new roof put on?
I was thinking about a new car, but the old one still runs. Priorities -- needs over wants.
oh my. I understand the needs vs wants. I have a 10 yr old car. I want a new car, I don't need a new car this one works but....
ReplyDeleteHow old is your roof? I had to put a new one on (Florida also) but my home was 18 years old with original roof. It's 20 now!
ReplyDeletePriorities! Yes, those do run the show, don't they? And I agree that a roof probably overrules a new car. It's the property maintenance that can cause those unexpected expenses for us retirees. But in the long run, it's got to be great to have a place in Florida to go to.
ReplyDeleteroofs are so necessary, so expensive, and so boring. Jill needs a new roof and we are in the process of researching a roofing company. We will need to fund it for her for now.
ReplyDeleteNot much choice when it starts to leak.
ReplyDeleteWow. When it rains it pours, huh? Except here in Idaho. We get a couple of drops every few months or so. If you have some extra you can send it this way. :)
ReplyDeleteI threw caution to the wind and put wants over needs and bought a new truck. Now my roof will probably collapse.
ReplyDeleteOh no, I have been there and a new roof is so darn expensive. Have you thought of a metal roof? They were the only ones standing when I left Florida after 3 back to back hurricanes. The shingle and tile ones were sporting blue tarps as cover ups. They are also relatively easy to install as they can go right over a shingle roof. My house here has a metal roof. It was a big selling point for me.
ReplyDeleteSorry that you need a new roof in Florida. Maybe, it's about time for one, anyhow. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's an unwelcome surprise! But you'll be glad of it when you next flee the north and alight back on your sunny winter respite.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet roofs do have it hard down there. My neighbor had a little leak after Harvey and he was up on the roof. I went inside. I don't like to see men risking it.
ReplyDeleteI just read one of the only houses left standing after Irma leveled much on one island was a house with a concrete roof. I never heard of a concrete roof on a house. Priorities -- a part of life.
