This will be the fourth year that I have volunteered at InStride Therapy. I work on Thursday mornings when kindergarten and first grade students from area schools come on field trips to learn about the care and feeding of the horses and participate in associated literacy activities.
Little Red is the star attraction. You can see he was all gussied up for this season's debut. He's a handsome pony and he does kind of know it.
Horses are so different in personality that I am sure they are careful in those they select to work with the children.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like good volunteer duty.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun for once in a while, but I am thankful I did not teach first grade or kindergarten as a career. So much energy!
DeleteHow much training did you need to become a volunteer? I am not good around horses at all but I do well with children:-)
ReplyDeleteI work with the children although one year I did volunteer as a walker for horses during therapy sessions. I just don't have time to do both anymore.
DeleteWell done Olga! The program looks like a wonderful opportunity for the children and a great way to keep your teaching skills honed.
ReplyDeleteIt's just enough. Reminds me that it is good to be retired and not have to teach every day.
DeleteGood for you, and I'm sure this puts a big smile on your face every Thursday morning.
ReplyDeleteThe kids last week did applaud my story reading at the end of the program. That made me feel good.
DeleteLittle Red is beautiful! We both have wonderful Thursday mornings that we share with 1st graders!
ReplyDeleteLittle Red does look saucy with that pony tail. Have fun, Olga!
