Watching Grace and Frankie

I didn't exactly binge watch the second season of Grace and Frankie on Netflix.  I spaced it out, savoring each episode.  Still, I am in withdrawal.

If you have not seen it, it stars Jane Fonda as Grace and Lily Tomlin as Frankie.
Their husbands of forty years were partners in a law firm, and apparently, partners in another sense as well.  When same sex marriage is legalized in California, the husbands confess to an on-going affair with each other and announce that they are seeking divorces so that they can finally marry and share a life together.

Grace and Frankie are devastated.  Although they were never close, never had anything in common, they end up living together and trying to adjust to lives they had never planned on living.

I really love the show.  This season dealt with infidelity, unexpected illness, assisted suicide, sex and dating in one's seventies, an adopted child seeking out his birth mother, substance use and abuse, and just the stuff of life and family relationships.

The thirteen episodes were just not enough for me.

Here is a trailer of the first season.

  1. We don't pay for Netflix. Is there any other way to see this series? I have heard so much about it.

    1. Gee, I don't really know if there is another way to watch the series.
Usually you can sign up for a free month of Netflix and it is easy enough to cancel after the trial, if you remember to do it.

  2. I'd love to see it, but cannot afford the added cost of Netflix, never mind the bandwidth! It's a smart, funny comedy!

    1. Try a google search of: Grace and Frankie, where to watch. There are sites that come up, but I don't know anything about them or how they work.

  4. I have heard so many good reports about this show. I suppose if I re-sign up with Netflix movies-by-mail, I could get the whole season. Will think about it. Thanks for the nudge. I am feeling the loss of "Mom" right now.

  5. I love that show too. I did binge watch the first season so I am trying to only do two episodes at a time. I see myself as a kind of Frankie. I'm not sure if it is because she looks her age compared to Grace or what? I've been mulling that over.

  6. Netflix is only $7 per month if you watch online and don't have movies sent to you. I watch in the morning before 8:00 so I don't use my broadband. However if you are not an early riser like I am then you will gobble up your allowed broadband in no time.

  7. We don't have Netflix. I'm going to Google to see if it appears anywhere else. TV is generally so blah - it would be great to have an entertaining series to watch.

  8. I've seen commercials for this and wanted to see it but I don't have Netflix. Darn! One of these days I might have to get back on Netflix just so I can watch it.

  9. I absolutely loved the first season but haven't started watching season two yet. Can't wait and I am hoping we can space them out and savor them but... I don't hold out much hope!

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

Life Goes On

There is nothing like a visit from the grand children to remind one that life goes on.  I spent Friday night at my daughter's and then brought the kids back home with me.  I did not get to see so much of them this past summer and it was a birthday gift to my daughter (who just turned 40!) to have a couple of days to herself. She probably spent them in her son's room playing Lego StarWars.  Dane tried to teach me how to play this video game--a hopeless task if ever there was one.  "Concentrate, Grandma!  You have to concentrate!"  I do have a hard time with sustained concentration lately, but in this case I had no clue what it was that needed concentration.  He finally took the controls away from me (thank-you!). It's amazing how long he can amuse himself at my house being out side on a scooter or helping me in the yard, especially if it involves a hose.  Inside, they both sit and draw or craft for hours.  Just before bed, Dane did say, "N...

Eggplant

Mike and I considered ourselves soul mates, but we definitely were not culinary mates.  Mike liked what he liked and disliked what he disliked and he never changed his mind about things like that.  He did not eat mayonnaise.  He did not eat tomato sauce.  He did not eat cooked vegetables except for corn, peas and green beans.  He did not eat onions cooked or otherwise.  He did not eat casseroles ever since they were a combination of things he didn't eat anyway. I did not like mushrooms as a kid and eggplant just made me gag, but my tastes changed,  Foods I found disgusting as a child are now among my favorites--mushrooms, eggplant, avocados, asparagus, eggs, spinach, brussel sprouts, herbs and spices. I will admit that I never developed a taste for liver (nor do I want to). I made this Moussakka a while ago and ate it every day for a week.  I froze half of it but ended up thawing it out right away. It consists of sliced eggplant layered...
