'Fessin' Up

Bless me Father, for I have sinned.  It has been XXX years since my last confession:

1.
I mentioned my friend who has difficulty letting anything go.  I encourage her to get rid of things, but she resists and probably thinks something is wrong with me for passing things on so easily.  (I trash very little, but I do donate and pass things along.  It's easy to do here in  wear it out, use it up, make do New England.)

The other day she asked me if I saved old Christmas cards.  I said that I did not.  Now I have to confess that I found a whole stack of old Christmas cards as I was cleaning out some cupboards---just the fronts.  I use them to decorate Christmas presents.  I wrap in plain paper and then stick a pretty card front in the middle of the package.  Seriously--use it up--these look pretty, you can put the to: and from: in a corner, they pack ever so much more easily than bows if you send gifts in the mail.  And it is thrifty! (Sounding defensive?)

2.
The weather is supposed to turn very hot and humid again.  Will I completely blow my Florida gal credentials if I admit that I am actually longing for some cool autumn nights?

Keep in mind that I have AC in Florida and a wimpy little fan in Vermont.

3.
I reminded myself that everything happens for a reason.  I invited the universe to provide me with a place and I trust the universe.  No need for stress.

And then my face breaks out like a teenage girl's--just to let me know that a.) I have not spiritually evolved all that much and b.) the universe has a wicked sense of humor.

I read this thing on Facebook about how retirement was the fulfillment of every teen's dreams--one of the dreams being for clear, unblemished skin.  Seems unfair that I should still have breakouts, does it not???

  1. I love your sense of humor.
I save some Christmas cards for the same purpose. Others I have no trouble getting rid of. I also give a lot of stuff away.
I am happy to hear that you are now looking for your next home. Stress will undoubtedly raise it's ugly head, but that too will pass, along with the pimples.

  2. It is nice to get rid off all the negative thoughts. Life the as it comes to get rid of from stress and to be happy always. If anything doesn't suits you try to be positive in other way. This keeps the man to live happy...

  3. I agree! They promised me that in my old age I'll be happy for oily skin. hasn't happened! Fun post.
We've been trying to clear things out. sigh.

  4. My in-laws are considering installing a/c in their house in Boston. Kind of silly because their winters are so harsh.

Good idea for the cards. Hadn't thought of it before.

I guess stress leads to acne. That, too, will pass after you sell your old house and are firmly ensconced in your new one.

  5. And we thought there were advantages to growing older...

  6. I like that idea for cards. I love the idea of using and not just throwing out. The way the climate is changing, your new home might need at least a bedroom A/C. Totally agree with the Universe's sense of humor. Helps that you have one also.

  7. This made me chuckle. Sorry about the breakout -- stress abhors a vacuum!

  8. 1. I love Christmas Card faces on presents. Makes plain paper look perfect. Even more fun if the receiver recognizes the card as one from him/herself. 2. Everyone should have access to AC year round (said the Texan). 3. Sometimes we aim for harmony but our bodies know there are nerves jumping around under the surface. Small price to pay if your day goes smoothly while suppressing any stress.

  9. This made me laugh! Funny some of the things we feel guilty about!

  10. Maybe the breakouts are from the hot humid weather. It has been detestable here for the past week.

  11. Nah, I can't believe you have breakouts? There are one or two advantages to advancing age.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
