What Have I Been Up To?

Well, really it seems as though I have been busy, busy, busy.  But now that I sit down to write,  I really can't say what it is that has kept me feeling so busy.

I traded in my Ford Taurus X for a Ford Focus.  That took a chunk out of last week.  I don't have so much stuff to haul around now and I will certainly notice the difference at the gas station!  It will be my Florida car.  I will drive it down this fall and fly back in the spring.

My son and I took a ride down to visit my daughter and the two grandkids on Sunday.  We had a visit and went out to eat.

I have been super busy at the library.  In fact I have a backache from toting boxes of books around.  I am becoming more and more enamored of the e-book idea, I can tell you that!

I went to see Gone Girl with my friend from the library.  I thought it was okay, not great.  I read the book and even though I didn't think it was such a well written book the story was so compellingly suspenseful that I could not put it down.  The movie didn't grab me in that way.  I also have to re-read the ending because I didn't think the movie ended in the same way as the book.  But that could just be my memory.

I did meet with the card making group last week.  I have started making my Christmas cards and have 30 done now.

That sounds busy enough, I guess.

  1. When we are busy, the days just roll one into another, and if there is nothing momentous, I too have trouble remembering just what it was I was so busy doing. It sounds like you have done plenty. And stop carrying those heavy book boxes! Back trouble is not to be taken lightly.

  2. You and Judy of JustJudy both saw GONE GIRL this weekend and I am jealous. Judy didn't really review the movie, she just liked seeing Ben a lot. Ron used to keep buying boxes of books at auctions and I had to carry them to the truck. I can empathize with your sore back. There is nothing more painful to the back than boxes or books!

  4. Well, you certainly HAVE been busy! A question: if you fly back from Florida, how does the car get back? I, too, read Gone Girl, but I'm not that anxious to see the movie. Good for you with the Christmas cards started -- mine are still in my head!

  5. Sounds like you've had a wonderful week! I worked the Book Fair last week so I can sure relate to those sore muscles from lugging books -- but it was worth it! Hope you have a wonderful week!

  6. Enjoy that new car. When ever I get one,I can't wait to take a road trip.
I understand the movie and book are a bit different even though the writer was also the screen writer.

  7. Sometimes I think I'm so busy too, then I reassess what I've done and its not much!!! Guess now that we're retired we can take our time and do a project well, instead of a lick and a promise!!!

  8. Ford Focus might be my kind of car, when I am ready to chuck my 2002 Hyundai Accent.
I used to work in a library and know what you mean by carrying heavy boxes of books.
E-books are fine, but too often people plagiarize by cutting and posting from one book to theirs.

  10. I read Gone Girl, too - didn't even know a movie was made... As you know, I'm a big e-book fan - and not because of my back!

  11. I'm curious about the movie. I am in the minority's here but I was not a big fan of the book. It thought it was a good story but TI didn't like the two main characters

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

New Furniture

We went shopping for a new couch. I liked this one, the first store we went to. Of course it would be an impulse to buy the first one so we trekked around to other stores -- something we liked more, a better deal? No surprise that we ended up going back to that first store the next day and purchasing that couch for our living room. Also a matching love seat for the den where we watch TV. Because I had replaced my old love seat with two recliners. We couldn't keep three households worth of furniture after all. Well, my recliner was not big enough to accommodate both Levi and me. Poor boy had to watch TV from his bed on the floor. There! This is much better! Spoiled much? The little tail on the floor belongs to his toy squirrel, Buddy. It's like having a toddler with the need to be picking up toys or risk tripping over them. But his very favorite play thing is that bathmat that can be found anywhere but the bathroom floor.

Walking

I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. However, we may be walking along happily enough -- me listening to the birds or trying to identify wildflowers and other plants while L...
