Weekend Update

Last week was a fitting lead-in to summer--pleasant weather and sun during the day, a night time rain storm.  My son treated me to a birthday dinner and my friend Ginnie treated me to a birthday lunch and a fun outing.  My sister-in-law came for a weekend visit and we cruised the farmers' market and little shops on the Champlain Islands.

I have to turn my attention to getting some chores done around the house and getting ready for the trip with my grandkids.  Things always creep up on me and I think that they are much further away than they actually are.

My sister-in-law saw what sounds very, very, very much like a young mountain lion (cougar) not far from the house.  There have been reported sightings but authorities pooh-pooh them.  I think they are making their way back.

    I love the idea of animals returning to their former habitats, even if they're a nuisance. We're all in this together, I think.

    Glad to hear that your birthday celebrations were fun. Where are you headed with the grands? A cougar? Seriously? Sounds frightening!

    Its nice to have your birthday celebrated with family and friends. I bet you are looking forward to the trip with the grandkids.

    The return of the cougars is interesting. There certainly is enough deer around here to support a population of cougars.

    Sounds like you milked your birthday up proper. Way to go.
    A cougar-- and not just an old lady with a young beau?? A bit scary but I'd love to see one. Keep your camera handy but stay safe.

    I'm glad you had such a wonderful birthday! I am surprised about the cougars, I just never thought of them as being in Vermont -- Florida, yes but not Vermont. Just be safe!

    Sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday, good times with good friends and family, good food, and a little shopping!

    I hope the cougar stays away from your home and no one get hurt as a result of the authorities lack of attention.

    Around these parts the DNR is the last to know what animals are in the area. Sounds familiar. We were told a few years ago that there were no moose in Wis by the DNR, even though many folks reported sightings. When one caused an accident on the highway, they finally acknowledged the sitings!! go figure!!

    I am very happy for your birthday celebration. Yes, authorities continue to pooh-pooh cougar sightings but even when verified on camera, they still are ignored. Yes they are "making their way back" and people need to be aware of the danger they can present to people and pets.

 It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. Walking

 I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. New Furniture

 We went shopping for a new couch. I liked this one, the first store we went to. Of course it would be an impulse to buy the first one so we trekked around to other stores -- something we liked more, a better deal? No surprise that we ended up going back to that first store the next day and purchasing that couch for our living room. Also a matching love seat for the den where we watch TV. Because I had replaced my old love seat with two recliners. We couldn't keep three households worth of furniture after all. Well, my recliner was not big enough to accommodate both Levi and me. Poor boy had to watch TV from his bed on the floor. There! This is much better! Spoiled much? The little tail on the floor belongs to his toy squirrel, Buddy. It's like having a toddler with the need to be picking up toys or risk tripping over them. But his very favorite play thing is that bathmat that can be found anywhere but the bathroom floor.
