Updates

My bedroom is painted.  The handyman and his helper did it all in one day.  Since the room had not been painted in twenty years, it really looks much better.  I chose 'fashion grey'--a choice the painters questioned, but I happen to like it a lot.

I have new curtains to hang and I will need to get a new bedspread and hang some pictures on the walls.  That will wait until I get back from the trek with the grand children.

The new dryer was delivered, but it did not work and the installers suggested I needed to get an electrician to change out the breaker.  Maybe I did not even need to get a new dryer.  It was not the breaker, but the electrical box that the dryer plugs into.  Also the electrical box was hidden away in the exterior wall.

This is what was behind the dryer:
And the outlet itself was about 18 inches above this hole.  It required a new hole to be cut out.

After the trip, the handyman (who may become my new best friend) will come back and take care of this with an access door.  He will also fix the outdoor faucets and my front door and who knows what else will have fallen apart by then.  I should mention that he was the one who brought the electrician over on a Saturday.

Forced to hang around the house for the past couple of days, I spent some time making a few cards.

The focus is a bit off, but you get the idea.  The sheep one is for a friend who raises sheep.  Her birthday party is today.

  1. Wow your dryer power has become something of a nightmare.

The bedroom looks very nice. I like the dark grey.

  2. I think the color is very nice, especially with the white trim. DH and I plan to paint our bedroom a grey-blue to match the blue in the quilt my friend made for me last year. We're in the process of making 2 quilted valences to match.

  4. I like the gray -- I'm thinking about it for one of my extra rooms, with white accents. The cards are beautiful. You're lucky to have found a good handyman -- they're rare these days!

  5. I love your choice of gray. It looks so clean and I bet once you get things on the wall and that new spread you will really love it. Now about that handyman -- I need to find one of those. Grampy is a wonderful provider and husband but handy he ain't!

  6. Agree, the gray looks very sleek. As for the handyman, if you have a good handyman, you KNOW you have a best friend!

  7. One problem usually leads to another. It is a viscous cycle. You are blessed to have a handy man. My son comes often to help me out, but I so wish I had someone local to rely on.

  8. It is always that way. Paint a room and you need to change the rugs and drapes. I like the gray and think it give a cozy and peaceful feel. One of the best things in the world is a trustworthy handyman.

  9. I really like that color and think it would be great to accessorize but what do I know. I have orange walls.
That is a bummer about the dryer and that you might not have needed one but glad you have found a great handyman. A good, dependable one is fantastic.

  10. Aren't you grateful for those guys you can hire to help? My hubby is so bad at this stuff. The tools are all mine. His dad died early. Good luck with the progress! sigh.

  11. I love the color gray, in fact my whole house is painted in varying shades. It's a neutral that goes with everything, plus it's calm and cooling.

Thank goodness for a handyman. I find them hard to come by. Hopefully the issue with the dryer is all sorted out.

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

New Furniture

We went shopping for a new couch. I liked this one, the first store we went to. Of course it would be an impulse to buy the first one so we trekked around to other stores -- something we liked more, a better deal? No surprise that we ended up going back to that first store the next day and purchasing that couch for our living room. Also a matching love seat for the den where we watch TV. Because I had replaced my old love seat with two recliners. We couldn't keep three households worth of furniture after all. Well, my recliner was not big enough to accommodate both Levi and me. Poor boy had to watch TV from his bed on the floor. There! This is much better! Spoiled much? The little tail on the floor belongs to his toy squirrel, Buddy. It's like having a toddler with the need to be picking up toys or risk tripping over them. But his very favorite play thing is that bathmat that can be found anywhere but the bathroom floor.

Walking

I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea. However, we may be walking along happily enough -- me listening to the birds or trying to identify wildflowers and other plants while L...
