Day Trip

My sister and her husband arrived Monday night.  I picked them up at the Ft. Myers airport.  It poured buckets all night, but my sister got up the next morning and went out with cup of coffee in hand to watch the sunrise.  It was 10 below zero when they left Vermont and they had 20 inches of new snow the day before.  She laughed at me for having on my morning sweater.

We took a tour of town and beaches, went out to lunch, and mostly relaxed on Tuesday.  On Wednesday we made a trip to the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota.  The orchids were in bloom.  Even though I had reminded her to bring her camera before we left, I forgot mine.  I took pictures with my camera, but the cable to get them off the phone is at home.

I should have reminded them about sun block, I guess.  They both got red faces.  To me, putting on sunblock is routine--wash your face, brush your teeth, put on sunblock, start your day.

They are glad for the break from the unrelenting winter and my sister and I have been laughing and laughing while brother in law rolls his eyes, but smiles.

    How nice of you to show them around. Sounds like you all had a good time. As for me, I never use sunblock unless I go to the beach.

    I'm sure your guests are happy with the warmth even if it rains! At least there isn't snow on the ground. Bob's family lives in Sarasota - a pretty city.

    They must have been so glad to get off that plane and not see their breath! Glad you and your sister are having such fun catching up. Bet they aren't going to want to leave!

    Sounds like you are having a great time with your family. How nice they brought you news of what you are missing. As for the sun block, they will want to pick up a little color so everyone will know they have been to Florida. Its tradition.

    I loved having my sister and brother-in-law visiting for a week in January. They live in Anchorage, and it was such a pleasure to watch them turning up their faces to the sun!

 It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. New Furniture

 We went shopping for a new couch. I liked this one, the first store we went to. Of course it would be an impulse to buy the first one so we trekked around to other stores -- something we liked more, a better deal? No surprise that we ended up going back to that first store the next day and purchasing that couch for our living room. Also a matching love seat for the den where we watch TV. Because I had replaced my old love seat with two recliners. We couldn't keep three households worth of furniture after all. Well, my recliner was not big enough to accommodate both Levi and me. Poor boy had to watch TV from his bed on the floor. There! This is much better! Spoiled much? The little tail on the floor belongs to his toy squirrel, Buddy. It's like having a toddler with the need to be picking up toys or risk tripping over them. But his very favorite play thing is that bathmat that can be found anywhere but the bathroom floor.

Walking

 I have always been a walker. Now that I have a high energy dog there is no excuse for not getting out there. And the weather is not an interfering factor here. Early morning and early evening are our preferred times so even when it gets hot we should be okay. We can get quite a long walk going around the neighborhood, greeting neighbors out working in their yards or walking their own dogs. But the landscape changes quickly just beyond the confines of the housing developments. It could be described as natural Florida or as sites of future housing developments. I do prefer the first option. And I really enjoy being out in natural areas so I often opt to head to a nature setting. I would have liked to put a picture here. Unfortunately my iPhone has made a unilateral decision. It will no longer be sending my photos to my computer. Why? I have no idea.
