Mothers' Day

A nice lunch with my daughter and the two kids at Fire and Ice Restaurant in Middlebury, VT, was a good way to celebrate Mother's Day.  We got together on Saturday to avoid standing in a waiting line with hungry children.



My son was not able to attend.  He spent this weekend taking the motorcycle safety course.





Now there is a perfect Mother's Day gift--the idea that your child is contemplating a motorcycle.  So what if he is in his forties and doesn't actually need my permission.





I hope it was a wonderful day for everyone.

    I had a great day, too, and even planted some flowers in Denver. I used to love visiting Middlebury, a lovely town. Glad your day was special Olga.

      I lived in Middlebury for two years--a transition period in my life that I would not care to repeat, But Middlebury itself--I loved it. I would move back there in a heart beat.

    Sounds like a wonderful way to spend time with your daughter and grandkids!

    At least your son is taking a safety course, and not simply buying a motorcycle. Seems to suggest you taught him right.

    Be grateful he is taking the course. I took it and it is wonderful. It gives you the tools to keep out of problems before they happen. Smart cycling is safe cycling.

    Glad you had a wonderful Mother's Day and that your son is wise enough to learn motorcycle safety. I love motorcycles and my sister rides but I would never ride one out here -- just not safe!

    We avoid restaurants on actual holidays. Much better to go a day early or a day late!

    Glad you got together, good idea on going on Saturday to avoid the crowds. I wouldn't be thrilled about the motorcycle either, but I think its like most other things in life...responsible people will be OK. The crazies...depend highly on luck. Taking the safety course is a good start.

      Mike's business was restoring antique motorcycles and he had and rode many over the years. My son is cautious, safety-conscious, but he just does not have that intuitive mechanical sense that allows him to became as if one with the machine. That's the thing that worries me.

Life Goes On

There is nothing like a visit from the grand children to remind one that life goes on.  I spent Friday night at my daughter's and then brought the kids back home with me.  I did not get to see so much of them this past summer and it was a birthday gift to my daughter (who just turned 40!) to have a couple of days to herself. She probably spent them in her son's room playing Lego StarWars.  Dane tried to teach me how to play this video game--a hopeless task if ever there was one.  "Concentrate, Grandma!  You have to concentrate!"  I do have a hard time with sustained concentration lately, but in this case I had no clue what it was that needed concentration.  He finally took the controls away from me (thank-you!). Morning Coffee

As a rule, I drink two cups of coffee in the morning. Gone are the days when I drank coffee all day and even had a cup after dinner--and never decaf.  When I was a working mom, the sleep deprivation made it kind of necessary in order to function.  These days, if I had a cup of coffee after lunch, I would be awake all night. But I do like my morning coffee.  Now I mix regular and decaf.  I can't quite seem to kick caffeine entirely. Wednesday morning there was no milk, no white stuff of any kind.  Thursday morning my sone left a note on the coffee maker--carafe was cracked.  Desperate times! I was not able to find a replacement carafe.  At least I was not able to dedicate my entire day to finding one.  So I bought a Mr. Coffee--a little five cup one for around 15 dollars.  I was thinking that I never drink more than two cups so why not. What I forgot about is that the manufacturers of coffee makers definition of a cup is, at best, ha...
