"Fessin'" Up

I have a bad case of travel envy.  Kay at Musings is writing about her trip to China.   Linda's thoughts from a Bag Lady in Waiting come to us from Kenya.  Gigi in Hawaii wrote about a previous trip to Tokyo.  I take out my photo albums and reflect on trips I have taken.

There is a solution for that, I know!  Will I do something about it?  That is the question.

I am thinking that I am going to start a new board on Pinterest, entitled "This is SO Not Happening."
Today I saw a pin about getting rid of arm pit fat.  Good grief.  It would also include dog costumes, fingernail painting, and recipes involving bacon as a dessert ingredient or smoothies that are green.

Or maybe I should not start a new board on Pinterest because it is already a giant vacuum that sucks up far too much of my time as it is.

I am going through a period of not being interested in cooking--still interested in eating, just not in cooking so much.

I am also in a fallow period as far as writing is concerned.

I was noticing the bruises on my arms and legs.  This is entirely my not paying attention and banging into things.  Uh-oh.  This is a major depression warning flag for me.  And changing of the season--always a trigger for some reason.

Funny how I needed to write this out to recognize what is going on.  Duh!

  1. 'Writing it out' has always been an *eye opener* for me.

And as far as traveling is concerned, it doesn't have to be far away... just a new experience. As you know, I hesitated about the Alaskan trip, but am glad now that I went. it 'changed' me. I guess I needed the new experience.

    1. Writing can be a good way to stay in touch with one's self.
You are right. I try to take a little trip every week when we are in Florida. I could make that a part of my life in VT, too.

  2. I have been loving your comments on some of the same blogs we follow. Now I am loving your blog. I too have seasons of running into things but I'm not sure it's depression. Clutz is the word that springs to my mind. Though I do suffer from depression:)

Loving the travel to China on Musings blog.

  3. Sorry about the blues and bruises! If you have the means, I say travel away! If it's really something you enjoy, why not choose a spot and plan for a visit. I hope the darkness lifts soon.
    Peace,

  4. But didn't you travel to Florida and to Connecticut quite recently? You are fortunate that you can do that. Try taking a dance class. You will love the exercise and the chance to meet new people.

    1. Well, yeah, you've caught me out! As my darling husband likes to point out, "What in the world do you have to be depressed about?"

  5. I bet it's pretty there in VT right now - though maybe buggy. There is still snow in my yard, Olga - I'm starting to wish fervently for rain. I started pinning a few months back but now often go weeks without even looking at the boards. It was a diversion, but not a good one!

    1. Things are very green--the Green Mountain State, after all. The bugs are starting to rev up big time. Hate those gnats and deer flies!

  6. Me too on the travel envy. Fortunately those gals are taking us along via blog which helps. Think of the money we are saving and all those nasty shots by letting others do the traveling for us.
When you feel blue, it is all over you body. Hope both blues leave you soon.

    1. Oh! That thing about all the shots--now that gives me a good chuckle and something I am really glad to avoid.

    1. I know from experience that these things come and go and I have learned how to deal. Sometimes it just takes me longer to recognize that something is going on that I have to get busy and deal with before it takes over.
I am glad you are Muffy again.

  8. You are not alone in the travel envy and it is a good thing I can live vicariously through others as I just don't see travel in my future. But I guess that is OK, too as I would really miss the cats and Amara and her Mommy & Daddy.

I really hope the depressions signals were just a hiccup and that all is better soon.

  9. Sorry to hear you are feeling blue! That's no fun at all.

A few years ago, I tried being a tourist in my own area. I took some day trips to places close by and visited areas in the city the tourists come to see. What was really eye-opening for me was these were places I hadn't been or not very often.

Take care, I hope this depression moves on soon.

    1. So, I have resolved to do a bit of sight seeing in my own state a bit more this summer. Lots of people come to VT for vacations, after all.

  10. Thank you so much for your kind mention, Olga. What a coincidence that this is the first evening that I've been able to visit since returning from China and I see you've mentioned my blog. I have been so stressed trying to get my posts up, start my trip photo album and deal with everything at home.

I'm sorry you're feeling a little down right now. I guess we all have those days when sometimes things seem not so great. Please know that we are thinking about you and sending you lots of love. I know there is a sunny day waiting for you around the corner.

  11. Pinterest! Now I haven't been on there for ages ...

Good that you've identified the depression and can take steps to whack it now before it gets more of a stronghold.

  12. I never know what I think until I write it down, but I don't like hearing that you are feeling depressed. I'll have to get you a goddess.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
